There are so many games that have failed this test over the last 10+ years. It's so depressing to see what I thought was a "staple" of game design just fall into history...
That and the "go the wrong way, there's always treasure" has stopped being a thing too.
Much sad.
Was replaying Outer Worlds in prep for the sequel and was very pleased that, at least in that one, this still remains true! Obsidian still staying true to the old ways.
It was a bit of a tired trope for a while. I looks like it's time to revive it, though.
At the very least give us a "Chasing Waterfalls" achievement for checking each one.
