Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

If you have the power of reality, spacetime, the mind, etc., surely you could snap in more fresh water, food, metals, plants, etc.? Was he just stubborn and didn’t want to let go the idea he proposed on his home planet?

Also, how does Thanos survive “snapping” but regular people using the power don’t? Does that imply that the type of people on Thanos’ planet is “superior” to everyone else (in my opinion, nobody should survive it because the stones are essentially the power to control every aspect of the universe itself)?

One thing of note, Thanos in Infinity War shows that you could use the stones individually (and also other characters, like Vision using it as his brain/the power source for his thinking bits and Dr Strange using the time stone to manipulate time) and that doesn’t kill Thanos or any other character it seems. Why is that, are the stones meant to be more powerful together? Also, what happened to all the stones, were they all returned to their hiding place (and if so, why weren’t they used for doing good stuff, like space stone could be used for fast travel, soul stone could bring back the dead, mind stone could solve the mysteries of the universe, reality stone could make awesome virtual reality games…)

And finally, and definitely very important, why is Thanos purple? Seriously though, why? Is it because of the comic books (like Hulk being green), or is there another reason? Did he just need to stand out from everyone else?

What will the movie be then? 3 hours of the Avengers thanking Thanos?

Have you ever had to much stuff lying around and you thought to yourself "I should really buy some shelves to stow everything away"? Then you get more shelves and after everything is in its place you're left with some extra empty shelves. Now will those remain empty? No, they will be an invitation to get more stuff and fill that space up.

Same thing goes for rescources. Doubling the rescources doesn't mean that life will suddenly thrive and everybody will live happily ever after. In a very short time life would also double and you'll end up with the same problem but way more crowded.

And how does "doubling the rescources" even work? Snapping half the life away is easy, just turn them into dust. But does doubling the water mean rivers overflow, oceans rise? Hydrogen is a rescource, does every star goes supernova because it suddenly has twice the amout of mass?

Doubling the rescources doesn't make any sense. In the Marvel universe there is probably at least one species that sees at least one element of the periodic table as a "rescource". You'd essentially have to double the mass of the entire universe which most likely would result in a universal gravitational collapse.

Also what would the lesson be that life takes away from this? That each time life expands beyond its means somebody will come along and give you more rescources? Thanos wanted to teach life the opposite lesson. That living beyond your means will result in a culling instead of a reward. It was his way of solving greed, even if he could've used the stones to eradicate greed directly, he is called the "Mad Titan" for a reason.

Thanos is probably purple be because his armor is golden/yellow and purple/yellow are complimentary colors that look good together. Its probably a design choice to make his character more recognizable.

Imagine snapping half the population and they were all conservatives that got snapped, we will actually double our resources.

I think you are thinking to hard about stories that aren't meant to be thought about a lot. Whether you half the population or double the resources it is just a temporary "fix" anyways. It's just a plot device for creating conflict and killing off fan favorites without actually killing off fan favorites in the end.

You won't get a satisfying answer to this. It's because the story had to happen. He's evil.

Because he was a very stupid person

plot convenience

And don’t tell me that the stones can’t bring back the dead, because they certainly can (see when they reversed Thanos’ snap)

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 5 points 1 day ago

Technically they were snapped, not dead. I do think the stones could have brought people back from the dead though, or something along those lines.

[–] lukalix98@programming.dev 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I guess the answer to that is the stones can reverse what the stones did, so the people that haven't died by the finger snap, can not be revived with the snap.

[–] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

In the comics all the snapped people were contained within the soul stone. They never mention anything like that in the MCU, so it's just that way "because".

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 4 points 1 day ago

They probably could if that was the command. However Tony wanted to keep what had happened in the five years since the snap so he didn't lose his daughter, so the second snap couldn't be to put things back like it never happened.
