Some meme or image-based communities will prefer to set this to 'Image'. Mods can edit the community settings to change it.

When I set the default to 'poll' for !polls@piefed.social, I get a white page with the text 'not found' when I try to create a post.

No, this is purely a UI change and makes no difference to federation :)
