Trump's already narrowing in on the second amendment as well. He has always had the view that taking people's guns before a conviction is proper.

So random person accuses you of being antifa because you told them they should use a blinker. SWAT team shows up at your house, arrests you takes your guns and you sit in jail labeled a terrorist with no way to prove you aren't an organization that doesn't exist.

One would assume they have to prove you were guilty, but they don't really need to do they. Your life is already ruined, you're on the news labeled a terrorist, public opinion is you are a terrorist because all media wants you to be a terrorist. And they will show that you once posted a comment saying this administration was trampling people's rights. Even if they don't get the charges to stick they won't give the guns back. You are now on a terrorist watch list.

You (my fellow Democrats collectively) motherfuckers do nearly nothing but decry the second amendment, shitting all over the “shall not be infringed” part every chance you get.

It’s far too fucking late now. If almost all Americans were armed, it would be different. We aren’t and it’s not. I’m not gonna run out and die to make a point for the rest of you who were too fucking good to deal with the danger and expense of firearm ownership.

I don't recall this conversation ever being about peaceful protests. My point is that we have enough guns, but they do nothing if they're being held by people unwilling to use them. The right is supporting all of this shit, and it either hasn't gotten bad enough or it hasn't gotten personal enough for the left to become willing to resort to violence.

OP's argument that "we need more guns" is stupid when we're in a country with more guns than people.

Your argument is stupid because you just assumed that i was saying there should be no guns when i didn't say anything close to that.

“Peaceful protest” was a joke friend, I was primarily responding to:

The solution to violence has literally never been "yeah, everyone should have a gun".

In the examples that I listed, guns were literally the solution to violence.

Not that I agree with their statement, but I think an adjacent point to the top of this comment thread - and related to your point - is that while there may be plenty of guns, they’re predominantly possessed by a group of people who agree with the country’s current political direction.

Many of those who don’t agree with this direction are also those who don’t have guns and have put in a great deal of effort trying to restrict others’ access to them.

I’m definitely one who believes that things have not gotten “bad enough”, but it does seem like things could be headed that way. If we get to a true Gestapo level secret police rounding up and exterminating everyone they decide is “Antifa”, the opposition is going to have a hell of a time defending themselves with their current numbers.

We’re at a fragile turning point where further political violence, especially in any organized capacity, is likely to be weaponized to excuse extreme tyranny.

You make some valid points. Sorry for the snark of the previous comment, it's increasingly difficult to tell if people are actually wanting to have a conversation or if they are just arguing in bad faith.

Honestly, I think we're at the point where there isn't an option that leads to a non-violent outcome. The admin has made it clear that they intend to act as genocidally as they can get away with in regards to both immigrants and trans people. Peaceful protest hasn't accomplished anything significant, and democrats in Congress have done next to nothing. Either the right escalates their violence unchecked or they escalate and the left starts fighting. I don't see a timeline where this admin doesn't further escalate their brownshirt activity and erosion of basic civil rights, unfortunately.

Hope I'm wrong, but I'm staying armed just in case.

It's for sure an added risk to be armed. Especially open carring long guns in a protest. However, after reading about the Deacons for Defense and Justice, I currently think that the reminder of that threat needs to be present.

The 2A doesn't protect us from anything, least of all violence. I believe we need multiple forms of resistance, and the 2A is just one.

Also, seeing that the 2A is a part of many American's identities, including MAGA cult members, I think it would be interesting to see the regime try and strip that right from any group of people.
