though i think this is one of the weaknesses of the article, it is expanded on by one of the comment in the article

The point you make about interpenetration of Israeli/Jewish and Western elites (and the advantage Zionist Jews as a diaspora population have in this respect that also makes them different from other client states) is certainly true but to my thinking this weakens the idea of ZOG or a para-state (i.e. some external imposition or independent pole) - Western elites support Israel because they come to see its interests as their interests even beyond a narrow conception of national security. I would say the Israel Lobby also serves an important disciplinary function which re-inforces this consensus and to some extent pulls American foreign policy further in the direction of Israel.

Pro-Israel politics are so durable and far reaching in the US (and less legible strictly from the perspective of national security) because this lobby is in a sense three distinct interest groups conjoined as one formidable Chimera (Zionists-qua-Zionists, weapons manufacturers, Jewish ethnic lobbies). The combined efforts of these groups (in their desire to both do their job and do their part) are why for example in the UK we get such diverse and seemingly unconnected events as the gutting of the Labour Party, 2 billion for Elbit systems, and an education system swamped in Holocaust exceptionalism.

i do think the christian zionists are a bigger component than the author talks about in the article, and that the weapons manufacturing (while they could make more money selling their product to all countries in the region) enjoy selling weapons to israel as the path of least resistance or perhaps they themselves are ideological Zionists (or "christian zionists") who find themselves delighted they sell munitions to israel
