Hi everyone! We are once again purging empty communities. It's happening in a day or two. Make an on-topic post in your empty comm if you want to have it not purged.

Empty communities simply take up resources. I am fine with purging ones that are empty or even not getting any recent postings. Do whatcha gotta do!

Worse, for me, is that they clutter the community search and explore features making it much harder to find stuff that DOES have posts.

Completely agree

I would also delete communities that have 3 cross posts from somewhere else and then we’re abandoned.

That comes later. It's a lot easier to run a query on 0 posts than more complicated criteria.

Every time I see a post like that, the next thing is me checking if our communities are still their. 😅

But of course it makes totally sense to clean up a lil bit from time to time. After some bans and some leavers, it’s good to know that we don’t have communities without reason and mods. 👍

Don't worry, my shiny new community went up in smoke with .ml. :(

[-] kingarthur@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 1 year ago

Is there an issue with lemmy.ml?

[-] lwdfwg@lemmynsfw.com 7 points 1 year ago

The mali government has effectively siezed control of all .ml domain names, making a mess of any servers dependent on them for apps, services, and SSL certificates to name a few.

[-] smackmyballsoff@lemmynsfw.com 1 points 1 year ago

Sheesh, does that mean Lemmy.ml is property of Mali now or was that sorted out? Weird to think

Slightly related but is there a way to see when a community was created? What's the threshold for newly made communities?

[-] MikeyMongol@lemmynsfw.com 1 points 1 year ago

nope, which means there is no threshhold.
