I had mentally allowed myself two days for looking at cars. As it only took a couple of hours I now have a lot of unexpectedly open time to fill. I might do an op shop run and try to finish off my couch.
Does anyone else write off stupidly large amounts of time to do things that are not actually that time consuming? I seem to do it all the time, which often means I put off things because I "don't have enough time" and then when I do get them done end up with lots of extra free time.
Iβm the opposite. I put things off, especially unpleasant tasks, but severely overestimate what I can get done in a timeframe. (I donβt really believe it, I just like to convince myself I will do it later to feel less guilty about procrastinating). Then mad panic ensues. I need to find a way of doing unpleasant tasks.
But more importantly, congratulations on the car! And yay for having spare time to do other fun stuff!
I only tend to do that for uni assignments - sure I can write up 5000 words after work on the day it's due!!
I pick up the car on Thursday. I'm going to add clearing out the small shed I have at the end of the carport and putting it onto Marketplace, I'll have an extra 13cm of car to fit in and need that space back so the new vehicle doesn't have her butt hanging out π€£

My girlfriend was saying she needs a way to track things at work better because she's supposed to be leading the baby room.
I told her what she needs is a G-Shock or something similar. It has alarms, timers, can beep on the hour and some models have a button that can start the countdown timer without diving into menus.
And it does it all in a simple and privacy respecting way that's sufficient for a childcare worker.
I bought a cheap Casio watch one time she's using to try it out, and if it's working we can get her an upgrade

Saw a massive black rat climb in under the dishwasher last night. Have to head down the bellarine today and turn the alarm on here. Bugger. Thing would surely set it off.
Never seen a rat in the house before, just a few mice back in the day.

Can you get a picture of it at all? There are a few types of rats near the coast, some are native but most are introduced pests
They're so fast couldn't get one :( This one is actually at the place here in Melbs (which I have to leave and head down the coast, but alarm is the problem). I'm really not a fan of poison so plan of a attack is to stop it from getting into the house with a bit of wood under the dishwasher and deal with it on sunday somehow lol.
Stainless steel wool balls, the thicker coil type, is excellent for stuffing gaps around pipework to keep rodents out. They donβt like to chew on it. The trickery part is to make sure the rat is trapped out of the house, and not in, when steel wool is applied!

Good idea! If you're not interested in poison, I think Bunnings has humane traps that don't kill the rat. But I'm not sure.
I made one with a bucket, tp roll on a stick and Pb on the roll. Rodent climbs up tries to get to Pb and falls in the bucket.
rats seem to be a coastal thing π¬
Trust me, rats are everywhere π we just don't see them too much in built up/inner city areas because there tends to be lots of food sources around so they don't often encroach into homes. Alleyways where dumpsters are stored, close to restaurants, etc.
Rural and coastal areas appear to have more rats, purely because it's less built up, so rats are attracted to homes for shelter and food. You'll see them more, but they are very much everywhere.
I love rats, and mice, but best not to touch wild ones. Most are introduced pests, though there are a couple of native species, like the Bush Rat and Swamp Rat.
I think the interview went well! It was my first ever "dual" interview, so there was another applicant there. But it was a very casual interview with the owner of the cattery. Her dog was also there and just was all over me wanting pats π

I ended up walking and chatting with the other applicant, and she was so freaking cool! She's doing a PhD in archaeology, which I asked lots of questions about haha, and she was so down to earth - I walked her to her bus stop because she doesn't know the area well, and we added each other on insta πππ

Well, the bonds I was a bit ambivalent about buying are looking good.
I do find it bizarre how panicky the stock market is. It's not like the tariff anouncements are either a surprise or that it's actually certain he won't change his mind again.
Agree, but I think the extent of his proposal is a bit of a shock. Also agree that it seems pretty likely he will roll majority of them back significantly as he's done before. Seems to me like he's literally just manipulating the stock market for personal gain/gain of friends

Did a bit of bond theory stuff back in uni and have to say it was one of the more interesting bits of the course. The stock market theory stuff was completely full of shit.
Currently I'm looking at gold. Not as investment but I have a very pretty gold 24k sovereign coin that I randomly won in a coca cola thing back in 1997 heh. I'm tempted to sell it (only 7 grams lol) as the price is wild thanks to the orange man but it's so shiny and the design is excellent I'm conflicted.

Blaaaaaaaah. Bolted awake at 4:30am for no reason, cursed the universe, eventually went back to sleep but had a conga line of very vivid and humiliating work-related dreams. Then bolted awake again at 7:20am in the middle of a particularly anxiety-inducing sequence. Ugh. I've folded my anxiety around uni into work and it's pretty shitty but w/e. Have accepted there will be lots of Yucky Feelings over the next two months but i just need to try and do my best with it and shit out something at the end, accept the criticism and move on.
Sometimes when I wake up in the middle of a anxiety dream I grab a soft blanket and wrap it around me and lie on the floor with my legs up on the bed. And I lie there and breathe. It lets your back really flatten out and stretch and helps me feel attached to the ground. Sometimes I literally also touch the bark of one of the gum trees on the way to the train station after a particularly bad night. YMMV so just putting it out there. Anxiety dreams SUCK especially when you wake up in the middle before your brain has finished filing whatever it is its trying to file. Go gently today.
