Yeah, I just moved over. Its a shame but things are going to get crazy online.

"Shithole website continues circling toilet."

I first saw this news over on Reddit, immediately searched for an alternative. Got home from work and now here I am

Welcome.

Best advice I can give you is to just give Lemmy some time. It can feel a bit empty at first because there's less content than Reddit but

  1. I've been on here 4 months and have already seen a major increase in users.

  2. Spend some time seeking out subs and joining. At first I wasn't finding enough new content to keep me occupied during various downtimes during the day, but now I've got more than enough new stuff every day to keep me entertained.

This is my first comment from Lemmy. Thanks again to whomever suggested it.

You picked a decent, reliable instance. Good choice.

Don't forget to block the Hexbear and LemmyGrad instances! Full of nothing but fake communist trolls.

Oh dear. I don't even know how to do that. I really appreciate the feedback.

Gimme a few minutes to tinker around in the settings.

EDIT: done. Thank you again.

Same — I never used Reddit but I found out about Lemmy from a Content Creator I enjoy. Seemed cool, a few privacy policies later and I’m here. The more I read about Reddit the more I’m glad I never used it.

I was super late to the party. Wasn't really a heavy user until right around the API changes.

[–] Crankywithakeyboard@lemm.ee 12 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Mine too! They recommended Lemmy on r/redditsafety.

Fuck Reddit.

[–] ksigley@lemm.ee 1 points 21 minutes ago

Yes, and fuck discord apparently ?

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 2 points 46 minutes ago (1 children)

Welcome. I joined 4 months ago and I've already seen a noticeable increase in users. Join some subs and your feed will start filling out nicely and you'll stop thinking about Reddit.

[–] ksigley@lemm.ee 1 points 20 minutes ago

I'm seeing a lot more porn, which is neat. Dunno if it's normal for a new user or the algorythm dangling a carrot. But I'll take it!

[–] zildjiandrummer1@lemmy.world 7 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Welcome. I joined from reddit in 2025, and happy to see more come over since Reddit has become a corporate, bot-filled, propaganda arm for many different groups

[–] ksigley@lemm.ee 1 points 22 minutes ago

I appreciate it :)

I register on reddit 17 years ago. Before the great migration from digg. I remember /r/programming being the first sub to reach 100k subscribers.

I got banned for saying in the /r/europe sub that russia banning youtube in russia was a good thing because then we in the west would get less russian propaganda. Got banned for a couple days. Left and never looked back.

/r/programming is dead already since around a decade. All the good discussions moved to hackernews and lobsters.

EDIT: never forget that spez admitted to silently edit user comments that criticized him

Fuck Trump and Musk. US should get invaded Iraq 2003 style.

I’m using the voyager app for Lemmy and it’s just like Apollo. It’s amazing.

[–] aeternum@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 minutes ago

Voyager FTW!

Warms my heart to see all the ‘new account’ badges in this thread.

[–] luciferofastora@feddit.org 2 points 57 minutes ago

Technically, I'm not new, just recently moved instance, but maybe mine delights you anyway? Assuming it's still there, idk how long it lasts.

[–] Mongolianhamster@lemm.ee 6 points 1 hour ago

Feels like how reddit was when I first used it 12 years ago. Bye bye reddit.

[–] OneBigSpud@lemm.ee 3 points 1 hour ago

Finally made the permanent switch over to Lemmy. I left a link in the Reddit Safety post so anyone else could convert easily.

It’s an absurd overreach to say the least; good riddance to the corpo-bot platform.

[–] madsjchic@lemm.ee 16 points 2 hours ago (2 children)

Haha aaaaand that’s how I got here

[–] ShadowWalker@lemmy.world 3 points 48 minutes ago

I suspect this will drive a lot of people over here.

Reddit really likes it's exit waves

[–] mechoman444@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

If the content is banned how is it being upvoted?

[–] ShadowWalker@lemmy.world 2 points 49 minutes ago

If it gets posted, then you upvote, and it gets banned later they'll issue a mass warning to everyone that up voted out before the ban.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 15 points 3 hours ago

Conform, citizen.
