Shout out to the menial workers at Apple Maps who are going to have a crap day at work tomorrow because of the thing their boss made them do, so they don't get fired and replaced by someone else who would do it.
That’s odd; my Apple Maps says “Gulf of Mexico” and searching for “Gulf of America” shows 0 results.
Unlike Google Maps/Earth….
You have to access it from a US IP address to get the new name.
From a UK or German IP address, Google maps has it as Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America).
We're being dragged into this mess so will look to report it

You should abandon Apple for Linux anyways. Apple doesn't care about you, your privacy, or anything but them making more money, from you. This has been proven time and time again by evidence and whistleblowers.
I'm going to start calling it the United States of America of Mexico and sometimes Canada.

Was it decreed by an absolute narcissist for no reason other than the kind of blatant arrogance Americans are notorious for? Absolutely.
Was it also completely legal? As far as I can tell. It's not really these companies' place to resist map name changes, it's the citizens' and our representatives'.
Does it have anything at all to do with fascism? No.
All he can dictate is what official American maps call it. But he can't make everyone else rename it, Apple and Google did not need to rename it they could have ignored him who has no legal power to do anything to them but they are kissing his bronzed arse so of course they did.

Beg your pardon, but the Gulf of America has officially transitioned and if you continue calling it the Gulf of Mexico, you're deadnaming it.

I can't understand would it even have the part in parentheses in Europe. Think how silly it would look if every location had the regional name for every nearby country added in parentheses after the primary global name. It would be a mess.
Eg:
Germany (Deutschland, Allemagne, Niemcy, Germania, Saksa, )
Feels to me like special rules Apple has to stroke special fascist egos.
But maybe its not Apple and this is a name set by your local governance. You mind if I ask what country Apple maps you're looking at?
