Rules

  1. Any drama must be posted as an observer, you cannot post drama that you are involved with.
  2. When posting screenshots of drama, you must obscure the identity of all the participants.
  3. The poster must have a credible post and comment history before submitting a piece of history. This is to avoid sock-puppetry and witch hunts.

The usual instance-wide rules also apply.

Chronicle the life and tale of the fediverse (+ matrix)

Largely a sublemmy about capturing drama, from fediverse spanning drama to just lemmy drama.

Includes lore like how a instance got it's name, how an instance got defederated, how an admin got doxxed, fedihistory etc

(New) This sub's intentions is to an archive/newspaper, as in preferably don't get into fights with each other or the ppl featured in the drama

This is not how you run a server.

So server admins are how we get the Reddit mod experience

[–] thisbenzingring@lemmy.sdf.org 42 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Confirmed its real, and now I am blocking that instance. Thanks for the info. There is enough content on lemmy, a few instances can be excluded.

I personally think that's a bit much to block an entire instance over when just one admin is being mildly annoying. Their comment is basically nothing imo lol. Compare that to the OP of this post whose profile picture is a cartoon pony from a children's show having an orgasm.

It's almost like a community made of opinionated nerds loves making fake drama and being whiny bitches in general.

Added a link to the comment in my post. Thanks for reminding me!

All that link does is try to send an email. You have to put a "!" in front of it: !Politics@midwest.social

Yeah it’s definitely real, I came across it in my feed before seeing this post. Guy seems like a real arsehole.

But it is.

Lemmy isn't set up to create a set of fairly moderated communities with buy-in from users. It is set up so anyone can be a dictator on their own server.

[–] tabarnaski@sh.itjust.works 37 points 1 year ago

Yup. But thankfully, it's also set up so they can quickly become dictators of their own little desert island.

[–] Blaze@sopuli.xyz 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Users can still quickly leave until they found a fair admin

And when the fair become unfair then we move onto the next, as it should be!

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 7 points 1 year ago (9 children)

I feel like relying on benevolent dictators only to run communities isn't the best option.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 year ago

That seems fairly un-hobbity, with all respect.

[–] Blaze@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 year ago

At some point one instance is going to have democratically elected mods and admins, that would be interesting.

In the meantime yeah, we are still using other people's servers

That's the beautiful thing about lemmy. If I don't like the current dictator, I can easily switch to a more benevolent leader.

[–] Blaze@sopuli.xyz 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sorry to hear, I love the Lotr memes community

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Never too late to make your own. Especially if enough people decide this is worth blocking the instance entirely.

Thank god we’re doing things on more than world

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago

Yep, that's mainly why I hopped to it so fast.

Indeed, but I have enough communities under my belt to be honest 😅

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago

Fair enough. The Onion community had pretty little traffic to begin with so I think I'll be fine.

yeah i have my problems with midwest. i think a succinct way to put it is that instance does not appreciate the federation process.

"Can't even downvote in Ohio"

For those who don't know what this means, but want to, you can read https://www.distractify.com/p/what-does-ohio-mean-slang and https://www.distractify.com/p/only-in-ohio-tiktok-meme.

TLDR it's a phrase that people use now similar to "Florida man".

I remember there was a far right mastodon server

I've never blocked an instance.

If I block an instance, that blocks all users too, right?

[–] chunkystyles@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What does "spits their dummy out" man in this context? Is it just "says dumb shit"?

[–] IndiBrony@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

It's like a baby throwing a little tantrum, essentially.

[–] sir_pronoun@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

..so was this about his take on the Gaza war? That he thought support for Palestine would lead to a loss of democracy?

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 27 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No they’re saying that’s what people criticizing the protestors are arguing. I think their take is perfectly acceptable but the power tripping is pretty rough

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I'd have to look into the context but their edit kinda sours it no matter what.
