MODERATORS

The NSW parliament is being recalled on Monday to address legislative changes in response to Sunday's terrorist attack at Bondi Beach, which saw 15 people killed in a shooting targeting the Jewish community.

The government will seek to outlaw the public display of "terrorist symbols" such as the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) group flag, and give police more powers to require someone suspected of committing an offence during a public assembly to remove their face covering.

The laws will carry penalties of up to two years' imprisonment or a $22,000 fine for any individual publicly displaying terrorist symbols. For organisations, the fine will be up to $110,000.

Under current laws, face coverings only have to be removed for police to confirm someone's identity post-arrest. The new restrictions would mean the threshold would be lowered to include all suspects.

Minns said the chant 'globalise the intifada' would also be banned, saying "horrific recent events" had shown that the phrase "is hate speech and it encourages violence in our community".

Next up, reeducation at the nearest Synagogue. As an atheist, fuck I am tired of feeling like a second class citizen in Australia. It is no secret why there is growing resentment against Jews and it has nothing to with chants.

Nah. I reckon you're engaging in a bit of a sneaky anti-semitic dogwhistle and a little slipping of the mask.

Only to the those chronically online. I have never spoken the words ‘globalise the intifada’ but if I want to I should be able to free of penalties. Every second politicians are thinking about this is time taken from more important issues that effect all Australians.

Pssss you have to be careful with what you say related to the j word. One wrong thought and it's anti Semite jail for you.

Now, if you want to talk about those Muslims, Chinese, etc, like we always do here on Aussie zone that's OK. Right or wrong you're free to share your opinion. Just be careful who it is about next time. Some things you're not allowed to discuss.

Excuse me, that's a load of horse shit. The modlog is right there at the bottom of the page. From this discussion, it'll default to filtering mod actions for /c/Australia.

Point me to any comment you think should be restored and I'll re-evaluate. But don't sit there and pretend we censor you from behind secret doors like this is Reddit. I see stuff I disagree with on the regular, but I very rarely step in. I let the community votes do that.

The main rules of the site are and have always been:
Golden rule - don’t be a dick. If you wouldn’t say it in front of your grandmother, don’t post it.
No bigotry - including racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or xenophobia.
Be respectful. Everyone should feel welcome here.

In case this isn't clear:
Criticism of a government's actions (Ours, USA, Israel etc) is fine. Start bashing Muslims because of the actions of two jerks or start lumping all Jewish people in with the actions of the Israeli government, and we'll step in. If/when we do though: it's visible. You can see what was removed and what justification we used when we did it. Whatever impression left you with the attitude that we censor users is mistaken.

Yeah sorry. I share the other user frustration and threw it on Aussie zone. It's a frustration about everywhere where Jews are considered holy and even thinking anything not positive is a crime, while everyone else gets a different treatment.

Yes, I've seen a bunch of comments here against Muslims and Chinese all the time. Comments I find ugly but also totally OK, no one have to like everyone. But I know that if those comments were against Jews, they would have been unfairly censored. But no blame on you, anywhere else on the internet would be like that.

To clarify my position so you can judge me anti Semite or not, while many people I admire are Jewish like Stalman or Noam Chomsky, I hate most religions, or as I call it, mafias, and it's frustrating that I can shit on Muslims or Christians all I want (not Arabs , Muslims) but if I say anything about the ones with J, then I'm worse than Hitler. We're not allowed to criticise them, but above all, this situation allows many of them be real pieces of shit and commit all the genocide they want.

The other religions have their criminals too, but they have to be a lot more careful because they don't get that free pass. We have to rely on heroes like Noam Chomsky to voice their opinion and even he gets to be called anti Semite and censored.

This censorship is a weapon and the criminals are using it very well.

But again, it's a misplaced frustration. Aussie zone is not worse than basically anywhere else on the internet. And the places where people can talk against them are usually full of other insane criminals like white supremacists or the opposing religions. So it's a much bigger issue.

In fact this post is probably even illegal. So feel free to delete it or block me or Aussie zone could get in trouble for fomenting anti Semitism. And I'm honest. It's the first time I talk about this because I think it's not even legally allowed to say those things and it's like talking about piracy, which could bring a community down.
