"As revolutionaries, we don't have the right to say that we're tired of explaining. We must never stop explaining. We also know that when the people understand, they cannot but follow us. In any case, we, the people, have no enemies when it comes to peoples. Our only enemies are the imperialist regimes and organizations." Thomas Sankara, 1985

I know that the israelis under Hamas custody were treated with decency, but I don't understand how this reaction of them is not just Stockholm syndrome...
I may be exaggerating and I would love to say that I think it was a genuinely decent relationship that they built when ultimately, the assymetry of captors atd captives was present.
But I would love to be wrong and it's just my mind being overwhelmed by the affection that I can't comprehend it.
As far as i know, Stockholm syndrome is not even an actual thing. I think these israelis just figured out that they are on the wrong side of history and what is going to likely happen to their captors by Israel
How come it's not a real thing?
But that would make it even more heartfelt. Would love to have some kind of interview of them if that's the case and have them speak highly of their captors.
The original "diagnosis" of Stockholm syndrome was literally just a random psychiatrist, who didn't ever meet any of the involved persons, explaining the hostages' behavior as, and I quote: "brainwashing". Then the media run with it and the rest is history. https://www.nzz.ch/english/how-the-myth-of-stockholm-syndrome-came-from-a-media-driven-hostage-spectacle-ld.1752897
