Android 16 is adding support for pinned notifications that show live info from apps.

TL;DR

  • Android 16 introduces Live Updates, a new class of notifications for ongoing activities.
  • Live Updates are prominently displayed on the lock screen as well as on the status bar.
  • These notifications are intended for rideshare pickups, food delivery alerts, navigation, and other use cases.

If this doesn’t sound like anything new to you, I don’t blame you. After all, rideshare apps like Uber have already been showing notifications like this for years now. Uber had to do a lot of custom stuff to make its notifications look like that on Android, though. Google has basically created a standardized version of what Uber’s been doing. With the new progress-centric notifications in Android 16, any app can create notifications like Uber.

I know this isn't Android per se. But Google has now opened up Pebble OS. And it seems like there will be a pebble revival. I just want a pebble time round 2.

This year has been a milestone for us, with significant strides in decentralizing app distribution, expanding the F-Droid ecosystem, and solidifying our infrastructure. All of these advancements were made possible thanks to donations, grants, our volunteers and regular contributors. So thank you again to everyone who helped make 2024 another great year for F-Droid. Now let’s take a closer look at what we accomplished.

Still in testing, Google Messages has made a small color tweak to the upcoming redesign of RCS read receipts that makes them bolder.

Just randomly sharing my experience here. My sister told me a few weeks ago she was going to change for a new phone (a Motorola, she likes AOSP-like experience). I noticed that her new phone wouldn't get a jack.

"Yeah, I know, I hope I can make it work with a USB-adapter". She has nice headphones that she likes to use, so USB-C earplugs were not an option.

Fast forward to today, she told me the adapter she got starts to malfunction:

  • she has to twitch the jack in the adapter for the thing to work
  • when she plugs the adapter in, Google Assistant takes over and randomly starts skipping songs.

She's now considering getting wireless earbuds, but she's not a fan of having to recharge them to be able to use them, and is also cautious about the e-waste potential.

I have a Moto G84 which does the job. It's not the best phone in the world, I'm eyeing a flagship from time to time and keep the G84 as a "connected walkman", but would it break today, I would probably get a G55 (https://www.notebookcheck.net/Motorola-Moto-G55-smartphone-review-Inexpensive-doesn-t-have-to-be-boring.932900.0.html)

That's it for me, do you have similar experiences to share?

RiMusic won't play or download anything new. Can only play previously downloaded songs.

Does anyone have any solutions or even knowledge of the cause of this new problem (began to notice this a day of two ago)

Edit: NewPipe having same issue.

2nd edit: NewPipe update solved the problem for NewPipe. Hope riMusic provides one soon.

New implementation of YouTube crack down?
