What are some Android tablet brands in the USA other than Google, Lenovo, and Samsung? I'm looking for a #5G tablet in the sub-$300 range and it's seeming like there's one Samsung, or several hundred random Chinese Amazon sellers that don't even have a brand name on the product listing.

A small project to help out anyone trying to keep their old devices functional.

I wrote a script to scrape pages of some popular alternative OS projects (such as postmarketOS and LineageOS), and put them into a single list. I'll try to automate and keep this up-to-date. Any additional OS suggestions and comments are welcome!

TL;DR

  • Google is expanding its “Ask someone to pay” feature for the Play Store.
  • Users in the US, Japan, Mexico, and Indonesia will now have access to the feature.
  • This option allows you to ask someone outside of your Google family group to pay for a transaction.

Update details:

  • Fixed cases where OK button could not be pressed on intro screen
  • Changed system top bar to neutral color again
  • Fixed an issue with desktop mode on large screens
  • Fixed crashes when opening pop up menu
  • Information dialog regarding adblock-related crashes

For those unfamiliar with NativeAlpha, here is their description:

  • Shows any website in a borderless full-screen window using Android System WebView.
  • Create home screen shortcuts and retrieves icons in suitable resolution.
  • Various settings (JavaScript, cookies, adblocking, location/camera/microphone access) can be set for every web app individually
  • Navigation with multi-touch gestures while browsing.
  • Opt-in adblock with user-selected filter lists.
  • Less memory footprint and no privacy-invading app permissions in comparison to native apps
  • Dark mode for Android 10+

  1. Enable developer mode on your Android phone.
  2. Download Webview Beta/Developer.
  3. Change the webview version you are using to beta from the developer settings.
  4. Install Berry browser for your casual browsing ( configure it at high security and privacy settings).
  5. Install Fulguris browser for the websites that require Low/med privacy and security settings.
  6. Set your default browser as Berry browser.

I thought I share this here for people who like the UI of Firefox but hate it's performance and like chrome performance but hate its UI.

In case you wanted to use any web apps, you can use Native Alpha app.

Please comment if you know of any light(under 20mb) browsers that has good UI, to improve my current setup even further.

Play Store 3D Pinball Space Cadet Download

From the article:

If you grew up in the Windows XP era, than you probably spent hours playing its iconic free game, “3D Pinball Space Cadet.” Now, “Space Cadet” pinball has been ported to Android, and it’s completely free.

One of the many things that Windows XP will be remembered for is the pinball game that essentially everyone who ever used the operating system played at some point or another. The game has been immortalized many times, and now it’s available on Android.

Developer Kyle Sylvertre used a decompiled version of Space Cadet Pinball from k4zmu2a on GitHub to bring the game to the Google Play Store for Android users. The game is optimized for touchscreens with the left and right sides of the display acting as the triggers, and you can also tap the far right side to use the ball launcher. The game runs in portrait mode, supports 18 languages, integrates with Google Play Games for a leaderboard, and is less than 5MB in size.

And it’s all completely free too.

There are no ads or in-app purchases here, as the developer “just wanted to see it on Android with a Google Play leaderboard.” On that note, cheats are disabled to keep the integrity of that leaderboard, but the developer hints that cheats might come back with an option to turn off the leaderboard.

In any case, it’s a nice hit of nostalgia. Drop your high score in the comments below.
