They are, they're just failing. They can't afford to lose the ad revenue from search. And now that Bing is an actual competition, they need to try more than before.

They've got a long way to fall before they really must have a come to Jesus moment and more importantly they seem to think LLM search is a better bet. I really don't think they've done anything to improve search in years.

When you design something based on rules, people will play within those rules and learn the best ways to make the rules work for you instead.
