Guitar Pedals

I use my bass amp for guitar practice at home, because I'm primarily a bass player and it works well enough. I'm currently using a Harley Benton Drop Kick for distortion plus a 7-band EQ which gets me a decent enough sound, but I'm looking for more variety. Especially something high gainy for a modern-ish metal riff tone. My current setup is unsurprisingly pretty good at stoner/desert rock stuff, though the amp is not nearly as dark as you'd think.

My guitar is a Yamaha Pacifica with a bridge humbucker, currently tuned to C standard, amp is a Fender Rumble 25, older version.

Anyone have an idea what would work well here? Maybe a Boss MT-2 or clone thereof? I read it's decent if you use the effects loop to skip the amp's preamp section (my amp does have an effects loop), but I'm not quite sure if it's the right pick for the kind of unconventional setup I have, or if it would even be a good choice for modern metal tone even if I did use a guitar amp. I'm trying to keep the budget reasonable, btw, so please no boutique pedals.

I could get a proper guitar amp, but space is a bit limited here and bedroom-sized combos don't usually do a great high gain sound on their own, anyway.

So I have a weird thing going on with my pedal board. First, my signal chain - Guitar into Bogner Harlow (light compression, always on) -> 4 channel switcher -> TC Mimiq (splits signal)

SW Ch 1 - TC Nether sub octaver SW Ch 2 - DOD Carcosa fuzz SW Ch 3 -Digitech Bad Monkey SW Ch 4 - Joyo Ultimate Drive (OCD clone)

Mimiq L out -> modded Jet City 22w head -> passive attenuator -> old Laney 2x12” cab (dark as all hell, sounds awesome)

Mimiq R out -> reverb/delay/trem -> Laney Cub 10” 15w input (hemp cone, different valves, again sounds awesome, cleans up well)

I’ve spent a while balancing everything, getting the gains to all play nicely, except… the Ultimate Drive for some reason is really quiet through the Jet City. The Carcosa fuzz sounds brutal through both amps, but really drives the Jet City hard. I switch to the UD, and the volume of the Laney stays pretty high, but the Jet City shuts right up. I’ve fiddled every way I can think of, to no avail. The UD is a loud pedal, with huge amounts of volume and gain on tap, but it’s just not doing much for the JC amp. Any ideas?

Recently caught Cardinal Black on their US tour, decided to take a pic of Chris's board. He's covered on his YouTube channel here. I wore my That Pedal Shirt hoping for a notice and a shout out, and he did! Every couple of songs Chris was standing one foot on the RE-202 self-oscilation and the other on the way treadle.

The show was great. Band was tight and tone was great. The opening act was Welsh folk singer Tom Jenkins and he was top notch. They had him come out and strum rhythm for a good portion of their set, too.

I'd estimate the audience was maybe 60% Chris Buck nerds and 30% someone the nerds dragged with them! 😅

I'm using this board in an upcoming show, and it's been working great for me so far, so I thought I'd share. The pedal order is a little weird, but It's what worked to make it all juuuust barely kinda fit. It goes: Tuner (love the strobostomp!) > KO noisegate (simple, cheap, effective) > Morley power fuzz wah > Cali 76 > JHS Bonsai (got it to try out a bunch of ts styles, but I think I've just landed on the ts10 so I may just get one of those and simplify a bit) > Caroline Somersault (I like some drive before and some drive after modulation) > Turbo Bandicoot (my own design! This is a rat with an added bass control, switchable parametric eq, and clipping options) > Boss RE-202 (almost always on to provide a bit of halo) > Blue Colander Tibetan Quaalude (colors everything and adds a bit of tasty dirt before heading to the amp).

This thing is so sick, digital micro amps absolutely stink at taking pedals. I just made my pedal board battery powered and this is as good as listening to my amp through a load attenuator. Put a clean boost and any other pedal you want and it sounds heavenly. Tried it with a plumes and a sunn life pedal and both were religious experiences. Ran it through the avalanche run and I was tripping out on my kitchen counter. I love u Jamie Stillman

Robert Keeley – founder of Keeley Electronics – has apparently invented a drive pedal that doubles as a weed vape. Only trouble is, he’s not allowed to sell it online due to restrictions on vaping products and, of course, weed.

It's a multi-effect pedal with 12 different effects that can be routed into each other or in parallel.

Juan and Nick Reinhart used to do a YouTube show/series called Pedals and Effects and run a site under the same name that did some really non-traditional demos of great pedals. It was basically two dudes in a garage nerding out about gear which was great.

It looks like Juan's accident really messed up his speech but he has been posting a lot of YouTube shorts of him playing bass lately so I'm hoping he gets better.

Baroness got me the Two Kings kit from Stew Mac. Just finished inventory of the resistors, diodes, capacitors, etc. I'm not really sure how to measure diodes or capacitors with a multimeter. I don't even have a farad option on it.

I was checking a post of Beka Gochiashvili covering Roy Ayers here, and I am curious about that vocoder setup.

Can someone identify the chain of this vocoder effect? I see that he's controlling the notes with the Prophet, probably sending the balanced signal into the Boss Vocoder VO-1, and then there's a send (with the white cable) into a bigger black box (no idea) what that is, and a return (going somewhere).

Any ideas here?

I've been on the fence about this pedal for 2 years before I bought it and I regret not getting it sooner. So many great OD sounds, bit also great for pushing my Orange Dark Terror.

I’m attempting to build a delay pedal that does only one thing: when you stomp the button, it plays back 30 seconds of high quality audio from 30 seconds ago.

I think it would need to be continuously overwriting some type of eeprom array. Does anyone have any advice?

I bought a few Teensy audio shields to try and prototype it. But I obviously need to understand how to achieve such a continuous rewrite on EEPROM or some other form of quick rewrite memory.

If someone could guide me to the right information, I’d be most grateful.
