Thankfully, Europe has loads of homegrown cloud providers. The largest is France’s OVHcloud, which runs the world’s largest data centre by surface area. Others include Finland’s UpCloud, Switzerland’s Exoscale, Germany’s IONOS, and France’s Scaleway (the cloud provider of choice for French AI unicorn Mistral).

Political momentum on this front looks to be building. In a speech yesterday, France’s AI minister, Clara Chappaz, called on the continent to “work as a pack” to take on US “predator” tech firms, particularly in the cloud services sector.

Wer noch immer Windows 10 im Einsatz hat, sollte nach Einschätzung des BSI zeitnah tätig werden und sich mit einem anderen Betriebssystem anfreunden. (Windows 10, Microsoft)

The sweeping new toy safety rules will also mean that all toys sold in the EU will be slapped with a 'digital product passport' in the form of a QR code displaying its compliance with EU safety laws.

Children’s squeaky plastic toys, trucks, blocks and dolls contain chemicals which are harmful to health, such as PFAS, also known as ‘forever chemicals’, as well as other hazardous substances like bisphenols.

Recently, the Commission said they would take a "holistic" approach to regulating large e-commerce platforms like Shein, and Norway is mulling a crackdown on Temu, including a possible ban, over the sale of toxic toys.

A recent investigation by Toy Industries Europe into unbranded toys sold online found that 80% of toys examined by the group failed to meet EU safety standards, including products purchased from Amazon, Wish and AliExpress.

So I've been looking to get a good generator to cover for power outages, and Ecoflow has a number of affordable, personal, solar-charged generators. But, alas, they're American.

Does anyone know of any EU companies that build similar devices to Ecoflow's?

A philosophical reflection: why are so many entrepreneurs obsessed with expansionism? Does it have to do with ego, with power, with greed and “always more”? What is wrong with the local market? Expansion at home, neighboring countries or - by extension - Europe. Surely that should be enough? Just making good money that you yourself and your group of workers can live a good life. Should that really be so much more? Or am I naive and still believe in fairy tales? Buy from Europe. Maybe we finaly are starting to understand the power of local businesses.

Bye bye Visa, Mastercard, Paypal, and many others. They can go and play "America First". We'll have our own independent system by november 2025.

Schleswig-Holstein, one of Germany’s 16 states, on Wednesday confirmed plans to move tens of thousands of systems from Microsoft Windows to Linux. The announcement follows previously established plans to migrate the state government off Microsoft Office in favor of open source LibreOffice.

As per one of the creators over on Reddit:

"I’m Amber, one of the founders of Griply: a goal-setting app proudly built in the Netherlands by a small self-funded team of four.

We created Griply out of frustration with how scattered personal development tools were. One app for goals, another for tasks, another for habits… it just didn’t make sense. So we built one app that brings it all together.

A lot of our users have switched from their “regular” task manager because they wanted something more goal focused - not just for ticking off tasks - but for making real progress on what matters to them.

With Griply, you can:

  • Set life goals and break them down into subgoals, habits & tasks

  • Make goals measurable with goal metrics (money, distance, weight, etc.)

  • Track your progress visually with charts

  • Organize by life area, priority, or type

  • Manage your daily tasks like any other task manager

  • Add widgets for your goals, habits, and tasks to your home screen

  • Use it across iOS, Mac, Windows & Web

We’re building this with a lot of passion. If you’re into productivity, self-improvement, or just love trying out European-made tools, we’d love for you to check it out. Any feedback is welcome."

An Android app is coming soon, and is in development. There's a signup on their website if you want to be notified when it's released.
