This area was hit very hard by a storm in Spring 2022 and many of the pine tree plantations in sandy soil got fucked right up.

The photos don't line up exactly but I got the feeling that part of my walk this morning was on a trail that was super hard hit. I'm glad to see my memory was correct and one of the photos I took today lined up well! I remember this sinking feeling about the deviation, and am so happy to see it bouncing back, full of native trees instead of the pine.

Bonus photo with fucked up tree roots being reintegrated into the forest circled in red

Didn't take too many photos while hiking because I was trying to not die. Some of them are not currently flowering but I took photos of their foliage so I could ID them.

Edit: the ones I couldn't ID in the field are the ones without blooms.

These are some of my most beloved allies in nature. They are native to my area and do a great job of keeping the pest population down around the consumable and ornamental plants once they get going for the year. Once they wipe out the easy prey in the garden they move to the trees to reproduce. Even the larvae are metal.

Bonus larvae shot
