Thank you for sharing this. new thinking for me to explore.
Go back to work in the office, slaves, so you need to buy my shitty cars to commute.
Starbucks, you’re next!
Is that a potholder or a yarmulke on his head?
Now I feel at home! You guys are awesome!!!!!
PS if anyone wants to work with me to try and make this happen, I am game.
We collectively need to do something to secure the long-term future. My initial thought is to follow aspects of Craigslist - create a non-profit behemoth that has a virtual monopoly on the infrastructure, so it cannot be displaced by a for-profit entity. No one can challenge Craigslist’s hold on “electronic classified ads” because 1 ) network affects 2) they can’t be undercut on price while still creating an “economic surplus” ie profits for someone else. Maybe this proposed organization could charge a small subscription fee for power users or something like that.

One of my all time faves!
I just don’t understand the thought process. They could’ve just shelled out $10M for Apollo and made that the official Reddit app. Then give users the choice of ads or pay for ad free experience.
so basically they’re making a massive gamble that most people will just switch over to their garbage app. Maybe they will, but for sure the power users, big sub moderators & regular posters are all coming to Lemmy. You know, all the people that made Reddit worth visiting.
Personally I think this will be the end of Reddit.
If it means the end of overpaid talking heads then I’m all for it.
