as I'm sure you're all aware, the sensational 'owl of the year 2023' competition is currently ongoing, and one of today's second round matchups sees the gigantic snowy owl facing off against the titanic short eared owl (making them both seem normal sized - joke by D. Mitchell & R. Webb, 2004)
I would like to take a moment to thank the short eared owl for having a schedule that lines up with when it's possible to photograph it. So many owls hunt only at night which is very inconsiderate, especially when you consider the weight of camera equipment and the price of train tickets in this economy.
