Okay? Even if you don't, you should still be against American billionaire Sam Altman directly targeting his critics out of spite, right? Like I get that this site is a lot more pro-AI than most other circles I'm in (even if I highly disagree with most of it), but we should at least make sure that doesn't go so far as defending literal techbro billionaires who are directly going out of their way to harm artists

Relevant article: Stop Sharing The Ghibli AI Slop, What Is Wrong With You

Though honestly, the base image for this is so minimal that this just ends up looking like a kinda shitty Photoshop filter or something, not something you'd want to use genAI for to begin with

City council just voted to buy the police an APC (that they don't have a use for, and if they did it probably wouldn't be good) while at the same time raiding the library reserve funds to keep taxes low

So much frustrating stuff like that going on here lately, and the city subreddit is absolutely unbearable about all of it

City subreddit, Western country: ‘look at this cool park, public transport, building, cute cafe’

Don't know if it's different in western Europe or something, but here in Canada it's "IMMIGRANTS BAD CYCLISTS BAD NATIONALISM GOOD SUPPORT OUR TROOPS AND COPS AND CONSERVATIVE LEADERS"

And also just finding out that apparently people in my city's subreddit are defending the idea of unbanning fracking and uranium mining in our small densely-populated province?? Depressing shit man

Tbh it's really funny how strongly people like this have been hating Trump for being American when these same people would be all over him if he was Canadian, their ideology is identical

I let them know, they just took care of it 👍

I really wish I could just drop reddit, it's a truly awful place that consistently makes me miserable

But there's so many topics and communities I just have no way of keeping informed about without it

Basically, for those of you here who ride a bicycle, what do you have in the way of bike infrastructure, and how pleasant/painful is it to cycle where you live? In my area, there's a small handful of mixed-use sidewalks (basically they made the sidewalk a bit wider, made it asphalt, and painted a yellow line down the middle) which are certainly better than nothing (especially better than painted bike gutters) but not really a connected bike network, it pains me to see how much could be done but isn't, it's not like there isn't the space or anything either

There's one of those paths nearby that's very useful to me for getting to a few shops, and getting there doesn't require cycling in the road very much, but going any farther requires me to cycle in traffic which sucks, thankfully the main street I'd be going down is still pretty residential so it's not too busy and isn't too fast (the sign's 50km/h, though tbf people do always go at least a bit over the limit), still feels dangerous though to have to rely on cars safely passing, especially when Canada absolutely has loads of large pickups and SUVs just like the US

The amount of hills in my area is also pretty troublesome, I had to get an e-bike just to be able to handle them at all, it's the only reason I'm even able to venture outside the neighborhood on this thing

I think I'm finally doing this "touching grass" thing people talk about, I just got an e-bike a few days ago so I'm finally able to get out of the house in a meaningful capacity since I can't drive and I'm horribly out of shape, this lets me get around to places I need to go somewhat comfortably on my own while still letting me get a decent amount of physical activity (certainly far more than the near-zero I got before)

I've done a few trips just for fun and it's nuts just how much more you pay attention to and enjoy the environment compared to in a car, but today I did a grocery run and it was also very practical, I got a decent pannier bag I can clip to the bike that can be used as a shoulder bag or backpack and it holds a pretty decent amount

For what it's worth, the harassment campaign was in full swing waaaay before CWC came out as trans, that was just extra fuel for the fire when it was starting to die down

If it isn't the biggest harassment campaign on the internet, then it's at least one of them

My thought about the person herself is that while she's a pretty garbage person, it's very clearly a result of the world around her treating her like shit on every level for basically her entire life, she grew up in a horrifically abusive right-wing household just to end up in constant attack by the worst people the internet's had to offer, with those people shaping every aspect of her "growth" from that point forward, to the point of the 4chan harassers even going so far as to give her multiple fake friends and people trying to "help" her just to end up being part of the harassment campaign so that she can't even know who she can trust even among people she knows IRL

Just a shitshow on every level and it's undeniable that she's a massive victim here even if she hasn't exactly been a good person herself (but again, that's largely because of how she's been a victim the whole time)

(I think CWC still uses she/her? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, it's been absolutely ages since I last checked for obvious reasons, I don't like looking into this stuff lol)

This is pretty disastrous, the things Nintendo is suing over are things that apply to pretty much all emulators, it would be a very dangerous precedent to set if Nintendo were to win this one

And even if they don't win, it's still very shit that they're even able to use lawsuits as a scare tactic, that they can ruin people's lives even without needing to win

Also, daily reminder that "piracy equals lost sales" is nothing but corporate propaganda, often it's the opposite actually:
