I don't personally want to use hexbear (the ML posting annoys me for because I am a different far left ideology lol) but I think I'd probably like an instance that is friendly here and has downvotes (blahaj can't downvote ๐Ÿ˜ž).

I don't really want to go to an anarchist instance if there even is one, since even though I identify with the anarchist tradition, I am a organisationalist which means most online anarchists annoy me too lol, and there aren't enough anarchists that agree with me on the fedi to make it worth having our own instance lmao.

So which instances do youse like?

EDIT: Aight i'll give this instance another go, but also to clarify I asked here because I like a lot of the posters but didn't know if I wanted to see it 24/7? I clearly value your opinion since I asked here and not somewhere else lol, calm down

This is literally why I am on hexbear. I am also a mod there so in spite of its reputation as a "tankie" instance I can assure you that is not really the case.

Oh I know, I have an account from way back when it was chapo.chat, but the ML posting still annoys me enough to not make it my home instance, it's kind of inescapable. I just honestly don't care to hear any further discussion on China, Cuba, Soviets, etc. Outside of my organisations discussion circles or the MLs I organise with IRL lol.

Might give my old account another go soon though tbh, it might not be as bad now you can browse federated communities.

Cuba

Oh come on, it may have a heavy leaning toward MLs but really? Cuba is like one of the least offensive places to defend/praise. And even China is surpassing the US on social progressivism.

You're going to invariably hear about those spaces no matter where you are.

[-] 0xACAB@hexbear.net 34 points 1 year ago

Oh I support Cuba I just don't care to hear endless arguments about it, but you did convince me to dust off my old account so I'll give it a go :)

You won't hear any one argue againt Cuba here.

Cuba is objectively based.

If you just stick to subscribed comms you don't see a ton of it tbh.

It honestly sounds like the instance you're looking for is Hexbear left-unity-4

[-] WhatWouldKarlDo@lemmygrad.ml 21 points 1 year ago

They're not interested in leftist unity though. We're too reprehensible for them to share space with.

[-] 0xACAB@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago

It's more like someone I like to hang out with but don't want to live with, but I'll give it a go again :)

[-] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

but I'll give it a go again :)

I really think you should, yeah.

There's plenty of stuff on here I don't really have any interest in either, but it's not that hard to ignore. And I think that's probably true for most of us, you know? Every post can't be a banger lol

[-] sovietknuckles@hexbear.net 35 points 1 year ago

Hexbear is a left unity instance (maybe you are thinking of Lemmygrad, who has MLs only as a rule?). It's true that we've got MLs, but we've also got AnComs, other Anarchists, Dengists, Maoists, some DemSocs, and even some Trots. I'm sure there's additional tendencies represented on Hexbear that I'm leaving out.

[-] ZeroEcks@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 year ago

Yeah I know there's no rule against it but I'll quote my other comment on why I didnt really vibe it as my home instance

The ML posting still annoys me enough to not make it my home instance, it's kind of inescapable. I just honestly don't care to hear any further discussion on China, Cuba, Soviets, etc. Outside of my organisations discussion circles or the MLs I organise with IRL lol.

[-] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 20 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

We've definitely gotten that criticism before, obviously no one place will fit everyone but also it obviously sucks to hear we're not quite living up to the left unity idea lol

Godspeed wherever you end up rat-salute-2

[-] MF_COOM@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

I mean, we definitely aren't when it comes to Trots lol

[-] 0xACAB@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

platformist anarchists definitely don't have more in common with trots than MLs or anything ๐Ÿ˜จ

[-] sovietknuckles@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

What do you want to discuss? And what tendency would you use to describe yourself, if not one of those listed above?

[-] 0xACAB@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

I am a platformist, like the organisations in Anarkismo. I mostly want to discuss some politics but also computer shit, IT industry shit (ie. talk to other people in my industry, who are ideally more left wing than HN), and art + photography. TBH photography is mostly what I talk about online these days, but there isn't a big photography community anywhere on the threadiverse I think.

This sounds interesting to me, but @DivineChaos100@hexbear.net in particular has already posted about Anarkismo. Having another Anarkismo poster is great news!

Lots of IT folks, devs and otherwise here, myself included! We should really have a Hacker News emoji, because they're one of my favorite places to dunk on for their Neoliberal takes and general bazinga-brainedness. r/programmingcirclejerk also dunks on Hacker News frequently, but I don't visit reddit anymore after the API stuff, not to mention that r/PCJ seems to have shifted a bit rightwards over time, though maybe not permanently.

Maybe r/socialistprogrammers deserves a shoutout too (they were x-posted here sometimes before the API stuff), but !technology@hexbear.net, !technology@lemmygrad.ml, !technology@midwest.social, !technology@lemmy.fosshost.com, and !technology@lemmy.ml are much more active. !transprogrammer@lemmy.blahaj.zone has potential but is not active yet.

and art + photography. TBH photography is mostly what I talk about online these days, but there isn't a big photography community anywhere on the threadiverse I think.

Indeed, photography is missing. We have !art@hexbear.net, but that does not really cut it. Request a photography community in !commrequest@hexbear.net?

[-] Nagarjuna@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago

If you want some red anarchist backup, hmu

[-] DrJenkem@lemmy.blugatch.tube 12 points 1 year ago

You wouldn't be a leftist if other leftists didn't annoy you.

[-] commiecapybara@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago

If you are going to give this place another try, it might be a good idea to change your settings to display subscribed by default, and then unsubscribe to communities that tend to have a lot of ML-centered discussions like News and The Dunk Tank.

[-] 0xACAB@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago

Yeah once I did that and added some less political communities I like it's balanced my feed out to a much better politics / normie content ratio for me. Hopefully I'll stick around :)

Lemmy.ml seems by far like the best fit
