I ordered a cake for my birthday that said Happy 29th. I'm 40, they didn't even check my ID or anything.

[–] nastronot@lemmy.zip 78 points 5 days ago

Bro is just doing shit

Happy belated 29th birthday! What, I'm not checkin your ID, either

[–] Zealotte@lemmy.zip 25 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Hmm. You didn't mention how belated. This all checks out.

It's an older cake, but it checks out.

[–] ViatorOmnium@piefed.social 31 points 4 days ago

The maniacs will sell you the cake even if it's nowhere near close to your birthday.

[–] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 28 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I order the club sandwich all the time and I'm not even a member, man.

I've literally never had an issue not separating laundry. Years of mixed loads never any colours bled, I thought the whole thing was a myth.

Last week I washed a red dress of my wife's with whites, and all my shirts came out pink like a sitcom. It's real people.

[–] sunbytes@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Never trust a new item, for sure. Jeans especially.

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 57 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Just don’t buy red clothes

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 37 points 4 days ago

Crip detected

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

Yeah I had a great city wok logo shirt that I loved but it was literally the only red thing I owned and I didn't feel like giving it it's own wash so it got stored away.

[–] Jarix@lemmy.world 18 points 4 days ago (3 children)

You can use vinegar to set dyes.

Red dye is particularly hard to set unless the Dyer knows and cares to do it

The dumb shit you learn when you date someone who does historically accurate recreation events....

I wash on cold (or warm) and stopped separating laundry by colour a while ago and now separate it by purpose. Like a load of my clothes, a load of my daughter's clothes (that she loads and unloads herself, not raising someone that gets confused when she needs to clean her clothes when she moves out), towels get their own load (with added bleach, colourful ones just fade over time), same with bedsheets (no bleach here though).

If I remember, I'll do new colourful clothes separately on their first wash with the assumption that most of the dye that is going to come out will come out during the first wash.

Most of your white clothes are more like grey off white now if you'd care about that. I dont.

[–] epicshepich@programming.dev 1 points 3 days ago

My wife gets these dresses from a hippie store that look beautiful but are so bad about bleeding dye in the wash. I'd never had it happen before then, but I also used to wash on cool before we had kids.

[–] im_fine_sandy@nord.pub 7 points 4 days ago

If you wash whites with black & colored items they become grey. perhaps generally unnoticeable but it's one of those details that makes people look really well put together.

[–] bold_omi@lemmy.today 2 points 3 days ago

Wash on cold. It mostly solves this issue.

Fine? Sure. But the proper setting, especially on a higher end rice cooker, will result in better rice.

[–] Juniper@piefed.zip 21 points 5 days ago (14 children)

I had to put all my stuff in storage then move across the country recently. I did not bring my cuckoo rice cooker with me, and damn I didn't realize how spoilled I've gotten. The rice I'm cooking in a cheap one just isn't as good. I think it is over-cooking the rice, but it's actually hard to dial in

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 18 points 5 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

this reminds me of how my friend recently used our entire allotment of coffee grounds to dial in the coffee maker at the place we were staying

ten probably hungover people the morning after a wedding, and this guy used all the grounds to ~~make~~ end up with 2/3 of a pot of coffee, then dipped before anyone else but me woke up

love the guy, but that was not what I wanted to enter the kitchen to see

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Wait, what do you mean "dial in"? I'm unfamiliar with this term in the context of coffee makers. Do they need to be calibrated?

Like, did he make a batch, taste it, say "too weak," toss it, then make another, taste, "too strong," toss, and so on until he gets one that's "just right"?

If so, what an asshole.

Or did he just dump an entire can of grounds in the hopper, brew a 2/3 pot, then dump the resulting motor oil in a travel mug before dipping out?

If so, still, what an ass.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 days ago (3 children)

the first is exactly what he did lmao

I brought enough coffee for like half a dozen pots

You can put cinnamon rolls in a waffle maker to make instant cinnamon roll waffles.

You can wash sheets on the towel setting.

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 5 days ago (10 children)

People use those settings? It all goes through the heavy soiled gauntlet for me

[–] bugbear@lemmy.sdf.org 38 points 5 days ago (10 children)

Maybe others don't heavily soil their sheets

Most of the brown rice you buy in grocery stores today is actually parboiled. Parboiled rice cooks with less water and in about the same amount of time as white rice. If you want real, genuine brown rice, you have to read the directions on the back. If it cooks in less than 30 minutes or 35 minutes, it's not really brown rice. It's parboiled. If the ratio of water to rice is less than two to one, then it's also parboiled.

[–] SatyrSack@quokk.au 25 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Parboiled brown rice is still "real, genuine brown rice". It's just been parboiled. It's not fake rice somehow.

Looks like a neuro fuzzy. That thing will make decent rice even if you try to screw it up. Brown rice does take substantially longer to cook properly - your rice maker is likely figuring that out and picking up the slack.

[–] nik9000@programming.dev 13 points 4 days ago

The Zojirushi are pretty damn magic.

[–] kazerniel@quokk.au 12 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

That must have been some very al dente rice. When cooked in a pan brown rice needs more than twice the cooking time than white.

[–] azdle@news.idlestate.org 9 points 4 days ago

It's probably not as good as it possibly could be, but in a automatic rice cooker the timing isn't manually set, it just cooks until all the water is absorbed / boiled off. So, cooking brown rice on the white rice setting would still take way longer and probably be fine.

[–] BCsven@lemmy.ca 25 points 5 days ago (7 children)

Lol.

Going through a Red Light (after a complete stop) at 3am in a desolate area when you are the only car on the road.

Also depends on the type of Brown Rice. We have one now, that cooks the same as white, but I bought one before that had a super thick hard casing and even after an hour of boiling it was still crunchy

[–] prettybunnys@piefed.social 28 points 5 days ago (4 children)

There will always be a cop watching that intersection. Do so at your own peril. I’d end up shot.

[–] zikzak025@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago

Or even just a red light cam.

I have no idea what all those buttons on a microwave are for. I just stick it in the box, and blast it in 30 second increments.

[–] fritobugger2017@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

I have no idea what is in that image but it looks nothing like the brown rice I have here in Vietnam.

[–] dermanus@lemmy.ca 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Rice cookers use a thermocouple to detect when all the water has been absorbed, not a timer. That's why it doesn't really matter that much which setting you use.

[–] paraproto@szmer.info 11 points 4 days ago

It will not burn anything, but it just may be in a different consistence than you like
