Yes, I know that it already started 4 years ago with the Warner Bros Discovery merger, but now it's COMPLETELY fucked.

The "Top 10 Series Today" here in Denmark are as follows:

  • 7 reality shows
  • a true crime show
  • a prequel series
  • a sequel series to a prequel series

Do they even do ANY original scripted shows anymore? You know, the one thing HBO was ever great at?

Or maybe it's the other Danish viewers who just can't get enough of the above crap? Both?

Either way, fuck Skydance, fuck the Ellisons, fuck the Trump kakistocracy, and fuck everyone else responsible for this travesty! ๐Ÿ–•๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ–•๐Ÿผ

You still pay for shitty streaming services?!

All of those shows were made pre takeover and top 10 is usually either highest rated or most streamed or a combo of both. There's a lot of reasons to bash this merger but this isn't it. It's only been like a week, not even enough time to do much even in this fast paced modern world.

Yeah. Wait a little bit as the new company cuts production while not making anything novel. For instance, Lanterns looked good, so they are going to have to kill it.

kakistocracy

We should really normalise the use of that classic term...

As you said HBO has great scripted shows. So don't forget about the catalogue. OZ, The Sopranos, True Detective, Watchmen, Lovecraft Country, Deadwood, Chernobyl, The Wire, Succession, and Barry.

[โ€“] Cethin@lemmy.zip 2 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

How is Lovecraft Country? I watched the first few episodes and it seemed really good, but I got distracted by things that came up I guess and never finished it.

IIRC, the lead actor I think has some kind of controversy a few years back. I really liked him before then, but I think he did something fucked up.

I was disappointed when it was canceled. The lead actor was good, but apparently beat up his girlfriend. He got canceled from Marvel over it and the last I heard from him he was in a movie produced by the Daily Wire, so.... a falling star for sure.

Reality is great, why donโ€™t you like it?!

You take actors that donโ€™t need to be paid union rates, very low edit costs, nearly no writing, and you pad the drama out with as many camera swaps as you can.

Oh, now that thereโ€™s a whole universe, letโ€™s remove regular people. You remember Allan from The Dates of Wrath, Jared from Big Brother Orphans S24, and Sara from Lingerie Island, and Nina Bimbina from Real Housewives of Bumfuck Nowhere?

Now you can watch them on Totally Not Mafia But In A Castle!

That sounds like a reason to invest in RealityTV; a reason not to watch it.

Oh, you want to watch TV, this is all for our shareholders. Low costs high viewership.

[โ€“] jaybone@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Iโ€™m boycotting CBS because of this. Which is too bad, they had some fun stupid game shows and reality shows I liked. Oh well.

[โ€“] Apollo98@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

Thatโ€™ll do it

They basically never add anything to the movies section, too. That's literally their main thing and they don't seem to care about that, either.

I have the ad tier and some of their AI ads crash my Roku. It's almost amusing that it's only AI ads that seem to do that.

I broke my HBO homepage.

I spent a few months watching all thier old films. My "popular movies" section, here this is easier:

I broke my whole shit. It doesnt show me jack what folks actually watch lol. Youre gonna tell me a silent film from 1922 is popular? lmao

Anway, found an old show I used to watch way back and forgot about the other day. "Bored to Death". Yall remember the Obama years? christ. anyway.

yeah HBO kinda sucks now, like everything else.

Its always a good time to rewatch The Wire.
