POV: It's 2050 and youve wedged your head between the passenger headrest and the door pillar

[–] finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

BEEP "Eyes are not on the road!"

(The word 'road' has the word 'ad' in it).

[–] W98BSoD@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago

Please drink verification can.

[–] cRazi_man@europe.pub 27 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Your POV subscription has also lapsed and you're stuck in 3rd person view. If this subscription is not paid then you will be downgraded to top down (GTA1) view before finally going to the basic plan of text only console.

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 week ago

Text only GTA would be… interesting.

"bro the fuck in already inline at McDonald's why am I getting McDonald's ads"

The future of "smart" ads

This is the real reason tech is pushing self-driving cars. If you don't need to see the road, you can look at more advertisements.

And they'll sell it as a cost-saving feature, like smart TVs and Kindle tablets. "We can provide this at a reasonable price because the costs are subsidized with advertising." You can buy a car with a traditional windshield for $80k or with an AdShield (TM) for $40k.

[–] Blibly@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

All this instead of just building more trains jfc

Can't extract as much value with trains as you can with cars

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oops I installed AdShield Block, thanks for the discount car.

[–] RedGreenBlue@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It's not actually discounted though. They still make a heafty profit. They just mark up the alternative. Tomorrow they will make it more shitty and more expensive. Stock owners gotta extract ever more value. Line go up! End goal is to be a monopoly, protected by the law, get lots of money and provide little in value to anyonee in return.

self-driving cars

Something I've never understood about self-driving cars is why would you want the expense of owning one if you're not driving it? It's like how rich people used to own expensive cars but employed a chauffeur and never drove themselves.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm still trying to figure out how it's legal to have massive advertisements lining roadways specifically designed to distract drivers.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think it was ford that submitted a patent for a camera that points forward, reads bilboards, then plays a video on your dash. I hate how shitty technology is being used all in the name of money and advertising.

Well never reach any kind of utopian future where things just work and technology is used for good. It's not about helping and feeding the needy, it's all about satisfying the wealthy. It's a disgusting timeline, literal rapists and genocidal maniacs running countries.

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Off subject, but I wonder if these UAP sightings by the air force and navy are optical illusions, perhaps projected onto windshields.

Because they were shown to be defying physics, it's the least fantastical explanation I can think of that fits what is undeniably true, those that deny the facts as they are notwithstanding.

[–] madmantis24@lemmy.wtf 2 points 1 week ago

I'm convinced that most North American cryptids were just memorable encounters with an owl that may have had substances involved on the part of the observer. Optical illusions being the primary source of UFO sightings, not out of the question to me

[–] InFerNo@lemmy.ml 17 points 1 week ago (2 children)

He's lucky to have the window rolling subscription

[–] TrollTrollrolllol@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

They'll remove the à la carte pricing once they've lulled you in with it.

[–] jaschen306@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He only paid for the rolling down. It's 2 times the cost for rolling up. 3 times the cost of it's raining.

Fuck, I can actually foresee McDonald's advertisements being holographic projected into the bottom corner of your windshield. It's not even much worse than what car companies are already doing with your car.

[–] 1984@lemmy.today 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

There is never enough ads.

Hopefully they still have the "skip ad" feature after 15 seconds

[–] apric0t@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

"Post a selfy with your delicious bag of McD's and the hashtag #imlovinit to receive 20 minutes of ad-free windshield time! Ba da ba ba baaa"

Plot twist: In 2050, McDonald's restaurants no longer exist, and nobody eats there anymore. However, the company still generates $66B per year with their "ad free" subscription model.

[–] zebidiah@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And it'll be the same four fucking ads, over and over and over!

My freemium homies know what I'm talking about....

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 2 points 1 week ago

[–] Jyek@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What is going on? I've now seen two of this exact joke on Lemmy but one is this picture and the other is a video of a different dude in a different car with a different ad in the windshield.

Where I have I seen that dashboard?

[–] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They should at the very least connect this to your start and make it so you can't start your car till you pay.

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 2 points 1 week ago

They already do with remote starts with some vehicles. I forget which.

Also some cars I think use your phone as the key, so if you lose your phone, it breaks, is hacked, turned off, stolen, etcetera, you can't use your vehicle.
