Oh man, are we back to Reefer Madness? I guess everything old is new again. And now I’m hungry for a fried egg.

[–] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Good ol reefer madness. We had a refer madness party at my place with about 20 people in the early 70’s. My dad (silent generation, wwii etc) came down and it was hilarious, bottles and doobies disappeared faster than the speed of light in hiding spots. We told him weed smell was American Cigs. He looks at the TV and says you’re watching that documentary. I thought we were all gonna die, trying to contain the laughter.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He knew. He probably referred to it as a documentary to get you all spun up.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 12 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

This. My dad is also Silent Generation and my sister and I discovered one day in the 70s whilst snooping that my parents were hiding their weed from us.

e: oh, also if you could ‘fool’ a wwii vet/survivor during the 70s by saying a weed smell was ‘American cigarettes’, he was definitely ‘fooling’ you. XD

Silent Generation people had incredibly good poker faces, if I recall correctly. Like, "find out their actual opinion ten years after they died and understand the humour" good.

“It also makes you scream and vomit and it prank calls your grandma!”

Thanks Big Alcohol you can fuck off now

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Messing up the dosage on your edibles can make you vomit. I've seen that first hand. I think the only time I've ever really screamed was because I thought it was essential to landing a joke. And my grandmas are dead, so, I cannot confirm nor deny this claim.

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Did the pot make you kill them

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Ahhhh, you got me!

[–] boobookittyfrick@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

I TOOK TOO MANY MARIJUANAS

[–] DrSleepless@lemmy.world 46 points 3 days ago

I’m on cannabis right now, can confirm, no violence. Lots of laughs tho.

[–] jade52@lemmy.ca 38 points 3 days ago

Cannabis makes me violent... TO SNACKS

[–] orioler25@lemmy.world 28 points 3 days ago (1 children)

"Of the 63 studies in the review, 46 were cross-sectional, meaning they measured cannabis use and violence at one point in time. This makes it difficult to tell whether cannabis use came before the violence, followed it, or simply occurred alongside other circumstances that contributed to it. These studies found the strongest link between cannabis use and violence.

Studies that follow people over time – called longitudinal studies – can help establish which came first. These studies found a much weaker link between cannabis use and violence than the cross-sectional studies."

Rest of the article goes on, but this is about the quality of research I'd expect from a Catholic associate college to a conservative university. Wonder what motivated this review.

[–] skulblaka@sh.itjust.works 11 points 3 days ago

This study sounds like somebody found out that drug dealers smoke weed sometimes and then just ran with that data as far as they could

Reefer MADNESS

[–] ThunderComplex@lemmy.today 20 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The only violence related to weed is when the couch starts absorbing you and the line where you end and the couch begins starts to blur.

[–] Zedd_Prophecy@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

10 years ago in San Diego I bought ( at my dispensary ) a 1000mg cookie .. White chocolate macadamia nut. It was really tasty and I learned the lesson of couch locked. My bud came over and wanted to play games ... I couldn't even turn my own system on. Don't remember the rest of the day.

[–] Blibly@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Sorry but you'd have to be a nincompoop little weiner if you ever thought otherwise. This is actual, literal common knowledge.

[–] orioler25@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

It's certainly news to me. You mean the headline, or the conclusion of the survey it is referencing?

[–] Egonallanon@feddit.uk 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Not sure I could be violent while stoned even if I wanted to.

That was my experience years ago. That said I haven't a clue if that's true for everyone. I know I've seen studies claim that people with bipolar disorders may experience breaks/episodes, which I would be interested in seeing more information to prove whether or not that is grounded in anything real.

[–] Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca 11 points 3 days ago

It's true, I was pretty violent with that bag of chips I had yesterday. And I will do it again.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

The smell makes me violent though. I've got nothing against cannabis. I like to have some edibles now and then, but I hate the smell when it's smoked. Thankfully, my friends are pretty understanding and if they want to smoke, the go outside.

One jackass in university blew it right in my face though.

[–] the_q@piefed.social 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Fuckers still drive under its influence though.

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 11 points 3 days ago

There really needs to be a fair way to measure and assess "highness", actual impairment, at the scene. I'm sure lots of people will think I'm advocating for intoxicated driving, but I'm not. When you are a daily user, at least in my experience, your tolerance becomes such that it's actually pretty difficult to get the high people without a tolerance get.

Which is why I understand people with low tolerance taking a few hits of modern SuperPot, going absolutely to the moon, and wondering HOW THE FUCK anyone operates a motor vehicle in that state. Unfortunately, I don't have the pleasure of getting that high anymore, and I certainly wouldn't drive if I was so stoned the frozen pizza was burnt in the oven and the ice cream was melted on the counter.

Unfortunately, with what we have for spot checking cannabis intoxication, anyone in my situation will pretty much always pop hot. I have a "medical" excuse, Crohn's, but if I didn't and the laws were the same I'd probably still smoke an Oz a week. Lots of people do, for better or worse.

I love driving, take it more seriously than anybody texting while they drive, can and enjoy operating heavy trucks, but can't because I piss hot. But Jim, who got fucking loaded last night and still stinks like booze, can hop right up in the cab and CDL his way down the road.

Your comment didn't deserve my diatribe, my apologies. It's been a long week.

[–] BauerBender@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (2 children)

It makes me violently paranoid and anxious.

[–] Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] Fallibilist@feddit.uk 1 points 2 days ago

Likewise, though mostly in theory and rarely in practise.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago

Sativa and hybrids do that to me, but Indica doesn’t. Not sure why. My brain likes Indica and hates sativa strains. Just have to be careful which strains ya do.

[–] mHtt@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 days ago

it makes you a target for non cannabis users, trust me. be discrete.

[–] DickHertz@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

I don’t know I got violently hungry for a package of Oreos yesterday.

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

I violently cling to the couch watching Rick and Morty. Does that count?

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Just makes me sleepy.

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago

Let me drive trucks!

[–] makyo@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago
[–] hamsamrich@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

One time I smoked a pot and the fire detector went off for like 3 hours

[–] Cris_Citrus@piefed.zip 1 points 3 days ago

Love to see reporting from the conversation, they're a great org

[–] darvocet@infosec.pub 0 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I'm gonna have to call bullshit on this one. Stoners will latch onto anything to justify their addiction.

I tried it back in high school and it just gave me a headache and caused me to murder my parents. My advice is to just steer clear.

[–] teslekova@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 days ago

It's true, I ate a pot once and murdered my parents, it sucked, they had to ground me
