What you are about to do has not been approved by the Vatican. As a young priest, struggle against demons, cultists, and your own weakening faith in this pixel horror game inspired by the era of classic 8-bit gaming and the "Satanic Panic" of the 1980s.

(from the game's steam page, here).

I didn't think I could be scared by a game that looks like it came right out of the Apple II era, but the smoothly rotoscoped 2 - 4 color animations in Faith are plenty freaky. The story is delightful, too, with multiple endings possible and interesting lore to discover as rookie priest John Ward is forced to confront his own weaknesses.

I still find the death screen so memorable and haunting, even though it's just a black screen with an electronic voice reading the text "MORTIS" to you.

It was originally released in 3 individual chapters, but with Unholy Trinity, you can get all 3 at once on steam for $14.99 right now.

Supposedly a 4th chapter is in development, although it's been a long time with no news. Still, I think the first three are satisfying enough.

I absolutely loved this one, I'm always impressed when someone can make something so simple yet so scary. The first time I encountered "WORSHIP ME" I threw the controller.

Isn't that crazy? The embodiment of less is more

Hah, that's something else. They really embraced the crudeness of early 8-bit graphics whilst adding the rotoscoping!

Kinda reminds me of the hilariously crude C64 classic Forbidden Forest:

Yeah I can definitely see how it would bring that to mind!!

Played that on the ATARI XL as a kid. As crude as it is now, that shit was scary back then, especially all of the death animations.

Haha, hell yeah!

Yeah, you're right, that sucker was actually pretty stressful to play back in the day, me and my friends. Kinda interesting though, because most of us led pretty active sports-type lifestyles in school, after-school, intramurals, etc.

I mean, theoretically we should have been some of the least-shocked / stressed players of all (more or less), right? Uh... NOPE!

(oh, I think they actually released a FF2 game? I never played it tho)

I love this game. The rotoscope cutscenes are awesome.

I don't usually play horror games because I'm scared, but the concept seems really good. I bought it anyway, I will cry later.

Note that the soundtrack is available on Bandcamp: https://airdorf.bandcamp.com/album/faith-the-unholy-trinity-official-soundtrack

I love this game. It's such a unique style for a horror game. It really works.
