Ah, manic episode, that explains it. And yeah, people who are manic are prone to do things that are kinda funny when you first hear about them, but get less funny the more you know. Obviously a bad thing to do, but yeah kinda amusing, definitely mental illness.

I'm pretty sure this was what a couple of my substitutes were doing when I was in school.

[–] 7rokhym@lemmy.ca 6 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Sounds much nicer than what we did to substitutes back in the day. The goal was to make them cry, but if they stormed out to go bitch about us, that was good too.
I wonder how we would have reacted to her.

Anyway, it was depraved, evil, bad, omg the children, they'll never recover from this. They should sue the school for the trama and psychological injury. So badly run the school didn't even know who was being put in front to the students.

Lol much respect

[–] skisnow@lemmy.ca 17 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

So much discourse in this thread. I can't believe so few people can agree that something can be both wrong and funny as fuck at the same time.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago

We are living in a post-nuance world.

[–] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Sounds funny, but what she did and said in the classroom was lame as hell.

[–] psycholocomotor@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago

She's funny like how Trump is really funny. It's not her actions that are funny. It's her absurd character.

[–] skisnow@lemmy.ca 12 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

maximum 21 years in prison if she is convicted.

America really does love jailing people

she needed to pose as teacher? i had the feeling a good amount of actual teachers hate kids

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

She didn't even know she could get paid to do this every day!

[–] justme@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 hours ago

and it seems like you don't even need an education for it.

[–] deft@lemmy.wtf 9 points 1 day ago

I find it frustrating comments here are supportive of her.

This bitch is a loser. Nothing better to do? No decent hobby but harassing people for a laugh? Fuck her

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago

That is some Roald Dahl shit right there.

We had a first grade teacher who grabbed a kid by the back of the hair and repeatedly slammed his head off the desk. Happened a few times. Tied another kid to his chair and didn't let him go to lunch. She'd slam her apple pointer inches from your face, at least until she broke it one day.

But it was first grade. We knew it wasn't right, but just not how wrong it was.

Why a POS like that ever wanted to teach kids is beyond me.

[–] binarytobis@lemmy.world 34 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I ate in a certain teacher’s room during lunch in middle school. I was well liked by teachers because I enjoyed school and behaved well. My best friend was a trouble maker because of unmedicated ADHD.

One day he comes to the classroom during lunch to see me, and the teacher goes “Oh hell no” and drags him out of the room. Confused, I go out into the hallway and see him dragging my friend down the hallway by the ear, screaming “You’re useless, and you’ll never amount to anything! Everyone knows you are garbage! Just give up!”

It felt weird because they were so nice to me, and the unmitigated aggression seemed to come out of nowhere. I didn’t understand for years that some people are just broken inside. I did stop eating there.

Anyway my friend is a successful chemical engineer now.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago

Yeah, ADHD is basically a cheat code for getting bullied by teachers. I had some who were great, but I can't think of a year until high school I didn't have at least one who clearly had a problem with me

[–] Cocodapuf@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Happened a few times.

Uh... What? That's the part that just doesn't compute for me...

However, after that teacher left she allegedly proceeded to organise students by race and gender, insult them using racial slurs and derogatory statements, and use explicit language — as well as playing loud rap music and bragging about being OK with going to jail.

A 16-year-old boy in the class told authorities that she also called one student ‘fat boy’ and told two white pupils that ‘they were the type to start school shootings’, Independent reports.

I know a lot of people are going to sound off about how they had it worse when they were a kid, but mental and verbal abuse is still abuse. It was never okay, not back then, and not now. This lady doesn't even have the excuse of being old and worn out like many of the professionals in that field. She's 23, doesn't actually work in that field, just decided to show up and being abusive.

Jones is scheduled for a preliminary court hearing on October 20 and, according to the Independent, could face a maximum 21 years in prison if she is convicted.

If only she was a child molester, she'd be out already.

This sentence should not be possible under these circumstances, unreal

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 136 points 2 days ago (10 children)

Jones, a former student at the school, is said to have scouted the premises for a week before carrying out the stunt, getting past security by blending in with other students.

She then accused of returning on a day when eight teachers were absent and ‘got lucky’ as only seven substitutes had signed in, before going to a classroom set up by another teacher, who stayed with her for 20 minutes.

Meanwhile Fox6 News Milwaukee reported that Jones was said to have asked if any of the students had a vape or marijuana as the class ‘was so f****** lame and annoying’.

She was reportedly escorted from the school after students raised the alarm and principal Doreen Badillo became aware of what was going on.

So much security theater just to allow someone like this to waltz into a classroom to openly berate children.

[–] Snowclone@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

working for a school district it's pretty strange it got that far. I get yelled at if I cross a campus and I don't have a badge on

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 hours ago

My thoughts as well! She should've been noticed as not belonging much earlier.

Who tf has this kind of time on their hands for such petty bullshit?

posed as a substitute (who has to pose? they'll take anyone with a pulse. you pay to get fingerprinted and then pay to get an "emergency" credential. the only qualification you need to sub is money)? mayhem? really? she intentionally maimed and disfigured those children?

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 46 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Her lawyers have said she suffers from bipolar disorder

I was waiting for it, and there it is, very last line of the article.

This is clearly the behaviour of someone havinga mental health crisis

five counts of exposing a child to harmful descriptions

Ffs! That's a RIDICULOUS "offense" if I've ever seen one 🤦🏻

I'm not saying that I condone any of the racist parts, of course, but COME ON! Harmful fucking DESCRIPTIONS?!

[–] BillCheddar@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago

She's facing 21 years.

Donald Trump could have raped everyone in that room and got 21 years less than that.

I don't think that's significantly different from every fucking sub my kid has had in elementary school.

Mr. Blah said that if we didn't stay absolutely quiet all day that instead of going to recess, he was going ot make us all do pushups.

They're fucking first graders. go fuck yourself mr blah because empty threats aren't going to mean shit to these kids.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (8 children)

one of the few subs I actually remember was a science-substitute (his specialty was biology), and he'd bring his snakes to class and let them wander about the class room and chill with the kids.

He actually cared about the kids he was teaching.

then there was the white South African sub that spent the entire class bitching about "discrimination" because she was denied scholarships for (black) South Africans affected by apartheid. she was just bitchy. (and credit to our history teachers, they found out about it and gave us an impromptu weeklong lesson on Apartheid.)
