Not all women are into astrology, but all the people who are into astrology are women.

Actually, they're a very specific and weird subset of women. They almost always have these traits:

  • In their late teens to early/mid 20s
  • Into "witchcraft" unironically
  • Too into celebrity gossip
  • Think yoga and meditation is sacred
  • Have a completely delusional and out of touch view of Buddhism and Hinduism
  • Have at least one of the following: Comically proportioned glasses, excessive piercings, unnatural hair colors, "spiritual" tattoos
  • Think they're an "artist" of sorts

I've yet to meet an astrology fan who didn't have at least 80% of these.

I can feel this post in my root chakra

What's sadder is that yoga, chakras, and crystals are traditionally from religions within the Indian subcontinent. Westerners are simply taking aspects of South Asian cultures, indigenous cultures, African cultures, and then bastardising them into marketable "neo-pagan witchcraft."

astrology is all fun and games until your birthday is on a holiday

[–] doingthestuff@lemy.lol 30 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

I'm straight, been married 32 years, and my wife hates astrology. There's no dilemma.

Hating astrology is such a leo thing

[–] Bipauler@sh.itjust.works 8 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Damn. I dislike astrology... And I'm a Leo lol. Did you see this in the stars? Is mercury in Gatorade?

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

I did see a Gatorade recall today so there very well could be mercury in Gatorade

She single, by any chance?

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 14 points 9 hours ago

I'll choose making fun of astrology.

I had several friends at school with the same birthday as me, so obviously we had the same personality and all the same stuff kept happening to us.

If they can predict planetary motions based on a sample of life events from a group of individuals with a balanced distribution of zodiac signs, then I will be convinced it is real.

sounds like the plot of a manga. teenagers of various zodiac birthdates come together to avert a solar system disaster with the power or friendship and shared trauma.

Theres a not so secret third option, don't date folks that believe in such nonsense.

[–] Sordid_Seraphim@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Secret 4th option, there is so much worse you could believe in.

Why let something as silly as that stop you from participating in a relationship that you might otherwise enjoy?

As long as it's not harmful why is it an issue?

Nobody said anything about dating

I used to be a bit of a dick about astrology. I still think it's nonsense, but now I kinda view it as a structure for people to explore their own emotions and as a kind of authority struct to get people to treat those emotions as valid. Ultimately I feel like its no different than me sharing emo song lyrics with an "omg they understand me frfr" type message. Maybe the astrology believer isn't upset because Venus is in retrograde or whatever, but they are upset their emotions are valid. I don't gain anything from being a wet blanket about scientific accuracy in that situation, and they feel like I am invalidating their emotions if I choose to be that scientifically accurate wet blanket. Plus, retrograde is a dope word and I'm not sure if I'd know it if not for the crystal girls I've dated

In short, you choose getting laid.
