Let the infighting implosion continue.

That said DST needs to die or be permanent, I dont particularly care which.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

This is where I am. Choose one and stick to it. Then everyone complains about why one is better than the other and nothing changes

[–] Jarix@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

We just did that here, made it permanent. I never cared but I'm glad they left the light which on permanently. I do enjoy money evenings instead of earlier sunrises

[–] Phil_in_here@lemmy.ca 39 points 6 days ago (3 children)

God, I hate Trump, but DLS is fucking insane.

We'd like more daylight for activities. Are our schedules too inflexible?

No, its time thats wrong.

[–] ADTJ@feddit.uk 18 points 6 days ago (1 children)

100%

If instead of changing the clocks we staggered working hours or even just (crazy thought) offered flexibility with start and finish times it would also massively ease pressure on infrastructure like roads and public transport.

We spend so much money trying to get capacity to a point thats only needed for like 2-4 hours per day

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I agree. why do we change the clocks when its just about changing schedules.

[–] Sludgeyy@lemmy.world -3 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Change everyone's work schedule?

Yeah that wouldn't go smoothly at all.

Stores that close at 9 pm tonight would close at 8 pm when we go back to "standard" time.

Someone working 1 to 9 tonight would work 12 to 8.

So instead of changing the clock, you're going to change everyone's schedule

If I ate lunch at 12 to get to work at 1, now I have to eat at 11 to get to work at 12

And the purpose is so the store closes closely to the same daylight level throughout the year?

[–] seeeem@leminal.space 6 points 5 days ago

You’re already changing your schedule, you apparently just ignore it because we’ve arbitrarily moved the clock an hour in either direction.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 6 points 6 days ago

used to be a common thing for shops to change their hours at different times of the year.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 12 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Exactly. These farmers (who represent what portion of the population?) claim they need this in order to get their work done on time? Like bro, you own a farm. You can set your own schedule. You want the sun to be up when you wake up? Then set your alarm for that time. Jesus. What a stupid argument.

Edit: like farming existed before daylight savings time was a concept. And predates clocks. wtf

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Time is a human construct. Not the other way around. We can make it whatever fucking time we want.

[–] bertlewirth@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

How we measure time is a human construct, but time is a very real phenomenon.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 days ago

Sigh… I suppose I can’t fault you for being pedantic but that is what I was referring to.

[–] whyNotSquirrel@sh.itjust.works 21 points 6 days ago (2 children)

okay I hate DST but what's up with farmers? Like why would they care what time it is when they work?

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 19 points 6 days ago

Farmers hate it more than most. It's a misconception that they are the reason we still have it.

[–] Marty_TF@lemmy.zip 13 points 6 days ago (1 children)

its not that we want more daylight, its more that the farmers who have animals have to basically train their animals to the new time twice a year. bcs animals obv dont have dst but the logistics around it does so especially like dairy farmers spend like a month around the time change slowly adapting thr animals to the new time. it is weird and it sucks.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

So then wouldn’t the farmers NOT want to change the clocks then? But they are the ones fighting to keep this.

[–] Marty_TF@lemmy.zip 11 points 6 days ago

they dont. believe it or not, but trump tends to lie about groups of people wanting something when in fact, they want the opposite of it.

[–] Zozano@aussie.zone 13 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Trump wants DST to fuck off?

Well I guess even a broken clock is right twice a day, which is more right than my clock which hasn't been adjusted for DST.

[–] PangurBan@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

God please let this happen I'm so tired of being tired for two months a year as my schedule readjusts....

[–] joekar1990@lemmy.world 15 points 6 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Does the number actually work? Like did he really give out a sitting senators phone (not that it'd suprise me)?

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 9 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Does he actually think that daylight saving time reduces the length of the day?

If you need more sunlight couldn't you just wake up earlier it's only changing buy 1 hour so I can't imagine it makes much difference to farmers.

[–] Greyghoster@aussie.zone 3 points 5 days ago

Farmers actually use the sun as their clock. Daylight saving makes no difference to them.

[–] aramis87@fedia.io 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

"it only takes one to stop a bill in the Senate". This creature has no idea about anything, does he?

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 5 points 6 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

I'm beginning to suspect he never 'won' the state "three times", nor the last "by 34".

I'd love to see reporters fact-check him, to him, with every question; half to see him eat his words, and half to see him just lose his shit on camera.

"Mr Trump, you said you (consults notes) won Ohio by 27 points on a truth social post last week. when one can't own a state, and the confirmed-accurate and safe voting system in Ohio confirms you lost by 3 points. How do you respond to the voting system your own people validated and the American people with regard to the factual content of your own truth social posts?"

"You're a terrible person and ugly"

"We'll come back to slander later, sir, but about my question"

And then another lawsuit for slander. Because sue that fucker every time. If Obama got slammed for a tan fucking suit, this rapist can be held to similar account too.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Wait, isn't "34" the amount of felony charges he got?

[–] bertlewirth@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

The old dodder is confused about his convictions :(

[–] slickgoat@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Has this cunt never heard of, TL:DR?

[–] Zozano@aussie.zone 9 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

folks keep telling me, they say "donald, your speeches are too long." They say it all the time, the slow fake news media, they say it. I dont listen to them, nobody listens to them except losers, right?

But then something amazing happened, something incredible. a young man, very smart kid, harvard graduate actually, terrible school but still... he comes up to me, he says "president trump, have you ever heard of TL;DR?" And I said "what is TL;DR?" Because frankly I was very busy, winning elections, saving America, doing things that nobody else could do.

He says "sir, TL;DR means Too Long; Didn't Read." And I said WOW. What a phrase. What a beautiful american phrase. I loved it immediately. everyone loved it. Theyre saying it's the best thing they've ever heard.

It's short, it's sweet, it's tremendous. Better than the fake news, better than the witch hunts, better than sleepy joe biden.

[–] slickgoat@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Excellent, have an upvote!

If the number works let's all call Tom and tell him to sign onto the impeachment of Donald Trump and get all his buddies to do so too.

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

I guess I'm the only one who likes it. I'm waking up in the dark now. Maybe it's because I live in the South where we have a lot of daylight. Northerners have probably been waking up in the dark for months now and are used to it.

[–] boydster@sh.itjust.works 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Standard time is literally the standard time why would we settle on something other than standard time omfg I hate these people so much. Like, of course adopt a unified time and do away with changing time zones twice per year while staying home, I don't want to forsake an improvement just because it's not the best version of the change in my mind, but dang, fucko g standard time is RIGHT THERE.

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago

"Standard" time is arbitrary.

There's arguments to be made for picking standard, and others for picking daylight savings, and a lot of it depends on where exactly you live along with personal preference.

As much as I personally support one over the other, it doesn't really matter which one we pick, we should pick one.

[–] prenatal_confusion@feddit.org 0 points 6 days ago

He knows that most clocks are remote controlled or even set their own time based on a radio signal?! don't get me started on NTP.
