Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

"Surely adding a second honey badger will decrease the honey badger escaping problem"

This is 100% true, OP. His name is Stoffel, and he is a primal force that cannot be contained

[–] TomMasz@piefed.social 46 points 1 day ago

The best part is he doesn't just escape, he escapes to go pick fights with lions.

[–] Zizzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 49 points 1 day ago

i love him thank you

[–] DaedalousIlios@pawb.social 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Honestly, he's earned his freedom! The only reason he can't be free is cause that lion's gonna die otherwise.

"I'm not locked in here with you, I'm not locked in here at all"

I hope this e-mail doesn't find you, Stoffel.
I hope you've escaped, that you're free.

this is unbelievable, it's CGI, right?

i've never seen anything like this. especially considering how dumb our cats at home used to be ...

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

Crazy that the badgers were able to figure out that they need to pull the bolts to open the door, and also that they first need to remove the wire that was wrapped around the bolts to prevent them from being moved

Well that's just a perfect little being of chaos right there. I love him for it

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I'd say he was my spirit animal if that phrase didn't come with just heaping mountains of colonialism baggage....

[–] Flukeyfox@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 1 day ago

I love how it says "used her to climb out" as if she isn't totally in on this escapade as well 🤭 They just gave the lions another local threat to worry about

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 80 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Honey Badger don’t give a fuck

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 40 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Obviously this one is giving all his fucks to fighting a lion

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 12 points 1 day ago

Clearly the lion said something that even a honey badger couldn't let go. Poor lion.

[–] wuphysics87@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 day ago

Honey badger slaps the shiit out of it

[–] luciole@beehaw.org 29 points 1 day ago

I dunno about this particular bastard but honey badgers absolutely do fight and repel lions. From good ol’ wikipedia:

The honey badger is famous for its strength, ferocity and toughness. It is known to savagely and fearlessly attack almost any other species when escape is impossible, reportedly even repelling much larger predators such as lion and hyena.

Also:

In a 2018 study, it was found that the presence of large predators had no effect on the population of honey badgers in the Serengeti.

honey badger more like honey badass

[–] elbucho@lemmy.world 43 points 1 day ago

It's a honey badger, so of course it scared the shit out of the lions.

[–] Eddbopkins@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

if you have the toughest skin in the world, and you know you have the toughest skin in the world, wont you want to beat everything and be king of the animal kingdom?

So they are properly depicted in Far Cry 4? They scared me.

[–] silentaba@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They had to tone them down for farcry 4.

[–] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Otherwise you'd need some kind of nuke to balance it out.
