Peter Navarro said Canadian lobbyists should 'get the hell out of our country'

One of U.S. President Donald Trump's trade advisers is threatening repercussions for Canada if it "interferes" in the upcoming midterm elections β€” though it's not clear what he anticipates the country would do to impact the vote.

He's just trying to establish that the midterms will have to be nullified due to foreign interference.

Morons crossing into the US are already being detained on suspicion of voting.

If you're American and reading this: you need to vote MAGA and Conservative DNC members into oblivion, or they're going to turn what's left of your country into an irredeemable shit hole.

Signed: your friendly neighborhood interferer

Trump has the worst presidential approval rating in history.

[–] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

Threatening will not help the threateners.

I think he's gonna try to cancel midterms and cite Canada being "hostile" as an excuse

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They're gonna cite a dozen different made up excuses why they're canceling mid-terms.

Of course it will all be complete bullshit, and the states will (hopefully) remind them that the federal government doesn't run the election, and will carry on anyway.

At which point ICE will be sent in to "secure" the voting stations.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

I bet half the states just let him cancel elections

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He can't cancel the midterms, but he can stir up people into thinking the vote was manipulated, because the GOP lost. See January 6th.

[–] DillDough@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

You need to look into what actually happened on January 6th, stirring up a crowd was the least of what Trump and the magas did that day, there were fake election officials with fake election documents sent into the certification process during the distraction from the crowd, there were even multiple attempts to murder his own VP.

They spent every single second since then ensuring that nobody is left to stand up against them doing it again. Nobody in the system is going to stop Trump, maga, the Heritage Foundation, Thiel, Musk, Putin or Netanyahu from continuing with what they've been doing. There's no voting our way out of this, there's no laws or other pieces of paper in the entire world that can help, literally only one thing can stop authoritarians and fascists once they get control.

As if the US isn't ACTIVELY fucking with our own elections (BC and Quebec). Projection.. again.

Every accusation is a confession.. you've heard this one before.

Half them are brainwashed to beg for it already

[–] Fredselfish@sh.itjust.works 14 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Calling it now if Republicans lose they will blame Canada in interfering in the election. Hell if any Republican lose they call foul and say it was stolen.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

if any Republican lose they call foul and say it was stolen.

They were already doing that anyway.

[–] NEZ27@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

They've been preparing every excuse in the book to justify suspending/interfering with the midterms. Always commenting about elections in wartime, 'hostile' govts (old allies), China, Iran, Cuba, and now Canada. They'll probably cite health concerns too with all the recalls and flu season kicking in. Just declare it an emergency and act like that justifies whatever.

And as it is now October in an election year, expect to hear about the advent of the 'MIGRANT CARAVAN' to steal your jobs and make you trans.

[–] bertlewirth@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Yes, but of course there will be NO interference if they win. Because reasons.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 43 points 3 days ago (1 children)

When your enemies make clear that they hate what you're doing, that's the best indication that you're doing the correct thing.

Trump didn't seem to care that much about election fairness when he started discussing the Annexation of Canada.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 days ago

Not when he was meeting with dirtbag flatlander premiers.

[–] 0li0li@lemmy.world 39 points 3 days ago (2 children)

So Canada will get blamed for midterm results, just fucking great...

[–] lemmyng@lemmy.world 25 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Odds are more than zero percent that he declares a state of emergency with the false pretext that Canada "interfered" in the election.

Or he goes to war with Canada.

Will that be before or after the US annihilates Iran (again)? Oh wait, the US also has to invade Cuba and build as many bases as they want in Greenland.

Canada will be penciled in for summer 2028.

[–] ProudCanadianCitizen@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Pretty much all of the top generals in America have bluntly told Trump they can not and will not follow an illegal order from him to attack Canada. That pretty much makes it zero percent probability. Besides, the second in command in NORAD that has to obey such an order is a Canadian officer. The top American commander can not do it alone.

They can say whatever they want. As long as our leadership is putting in guard rails to prevent future governments from collaborating with the US then I don't care.

Oh, you mean the Peter Navarro who invented a trade expert named Ron Vara in his books to add credibility to his own views on China?

β€œIn six of his books about China, Navarro quotes a purported trade expert named "Ron Vara", whom he describes as a China hawk and former Harvard PhD doctoral student in economics. Vara makes Sinophobic remarks about China and the Chinese, such as "you've got to be nuts to eat Chinese food" and "only the Chinese can turn a leather sofa into an acid bath, a baby crib into a lethal weapon, and a cellphone battery into heart-piercing shrapnel".[227] However, a 2019 investigation by the Chronicle of Higher Education found that no such person existed, and that "Ron Vara" (an anagram of Navarro) appeared to represent views that Navarro himself held.[227][228] When he was asked about Vara by The Chronicle, Navarro admitted to making up the character, an author surrogate, and quoting him in his books.[228]” Source

"ALL conservatives are pathological liars and pedophiles. 100% of them. There are no exceptions."

To be clear, the election will be affected by the trade war that the president started via tariffs that we (Canada) have put in place. We're effectively robbing specific swing states of customers and/or required supplies, or at least driving up the costs with tariffs (which are all in place due to the tariffs placed on us).

We're turning the tariff into a very targeted weapon to discourage the purchase of things important to those states, like pulp and paper, as an example.... And it's working. The voters in those places know what is happening and why. The trade war is literally putting them out of business slowly, and there's absolutely no mystery about it.

Does this mean we're interfering? Or are the tariffs placed against Canada by the USA the root of the problem?

I know what I think, and I know what the US media will say already.

Canada has absolutely no control over what the US politicians make into an election issue. The Republicans under Trump are giving all the ammunition that the opposition needs, no help from Canada necessary. This election will be an entirely Made in the US of A product.

[–] Reannlegge@lemmy.ca 15 points 3 days ago

So if the Dems take more control it will be Canada’s fault not the shear incompatence of Trump and his administration?

[–] tortina_original@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I do feel bad for many Americans, but boy am I enjoying watching the collapse of that shit empire. The most corrupt country in the history of the world, it's only fitting to go down this way.

[–] gramie@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

It's not even the most corrupt country in the world at this moment, let alone in history. No need for hyperbole, the reality is bad enough.

[–] BC_viper@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago

Hmm declaring he's an enemy. Never leave a live enemy.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 3 days ago

As though Canada ever fucked with us in any way.

[–] Cheebus@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

lol Canada would never interfere our elections.

The worst thing Canada did to us was Justin Bieber. A drop in the bucket compared to the shit we’ve done.

God I hope this fucker loses bigly

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The worst thing Canada did to us was Justin Bieber.

We sent him down there as an innocent kid, and the Americans returned him a broken man.
