Jessica was hiking in a remote part of New Zealand with her dog, Molly, when she slipped and fell 180 feet down a waterfall. Jessica survived and was rescued - but Molly had disappeared.

A local helicopter company heard what happened and organized a volunteer search. A week after Molly went missing, the team flew back to the waterfall to start looking.

And there she was.

Molly was sitting on rocks beneath the very waterfall where Jessica had fallen. Despite spending a week on her own, rescuers said she was in perfect condition.

They lured Molly over with a treat, carried her to the helicopter and brought her to safety.

After an unimaginably difficult week, Jessica and Molly were finally both back home.

I was worried this was going to be a "Jurassic Bark" type of story, so glad it wasn't.

I fucking hate this comment. Plenty of people deserve dogs. And dogs deserve those people. Jessica and Molly in this article absolutely deserve each other.

"Dogs are so pure and kind that humanity as a whole, capable of great evil, should be grateful for their companionship"

"FUCK YOU!"

Thank you for this. Been a tough couple of days for me, this made me laugh out loud.

I fucking hate this comment. Plenty of other people deserve a comment like this, but not this one.

but how will i sound original and insightful if not by mindlessly repeating the platitude that has only been repeated one billion times before?

It’s nice to see good things happening in this world sometimes.

Shame it seems to always be non-humans

[–] LogicOverFeelings@piefed.ca 2 points 1 day ago

I don't think that's fair to say in this case, after all, it was humans that found the dog using an helicopter which is not cheap to fly.

In fact, to finance the helicopter flight they raised money and reached out more then five time their objective in 8 hours.

“At the same time Lily, the cat of Jessica, was also missing. After looking for her with various notices, a neighbor reached out. It turns out that Lily was looking for a new family. Because Lily is a cat, and cats are disloyal pieces of shit”

(I like cats)

My SO in regards to our late cat: “I love Tuna but she’d sell me for a handful of Temptations”. Rest in peace gentle, but onery little void.

[–] aceshigh@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My dog is totally like that. I mean he likes me and all (I feed him and take him to the bathroom) but he’d be ok to not see me again too.

Is he a Cairn Terrier?

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I have two cats and every day when I come home from work they both come running to greet me, one comes over to actually say hello, and the other one comes over so she can make sure I can see it, when she snubs me. Unless I have shopping bags in which case all shopping must be thoroughly inspected.

"OH you're alive? Good I guess, I'm hungry."

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yes I know I have food in my bowl, I'm hungry for different food, or possibly the same food but without the hole in the middle.

Fuck, you sound like the worst (feline)

[–] DoctorWhoDMC@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I also like cats; as animals, they're just far more practical...

[–] SirActionSack@aussie.zone 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Have you ever seen a ragdoll.

[–] DoctorWhoDMC@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I meant to say the animals act more practical.

Sure a cat won’t jump into a burning building to save you; it’s a survivor and it knows it can’t drag you out anyway.

If you try to play with them like you would a dog, they just look at you like you’re a weirdo.

Reminds me of the dog episode from Futurama :'(

[–] Gonzako@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I read the original story and it still makes me tear up

[–] zigmus64@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I had the same thought, actually…

[–] Randelung@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

my heart skipped a beat when nibbler went to the same place and lay down in the spot.

[–] amgine@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Same. They just wanted to torture us.

[–] darthsundhaft@piefed.social 20 points 3 days ago (19 children)

Every now and then I wonder if I were to somehow actually have a conversation with family pet, I always wanted to ask if they missed their birth family.

Obviously, humans don't mind taking them away from them to "raise them" but it's kind of sad when you think about it. We really don't deserve pets. Another thing that humanity as enshitified.

Mine’s sister from the next litter lives next door. She gets depressed if she can’t see her. Whimpers to be let out when she knows she’s outside. She is indifferent about their unrelated dog. Anecdotal, and not exactly the same thing but it made me wonder that too.
