Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Republicans and AIPAC dems are selling out every piece of America and its citizens at record pace since their polling is at record lows

Allowing the LEADERS OF 9/11 to CONTROL OUR NEWS is putting America First!

-LITERALLY Republicans!

[–] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 63 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

So basically it's an auction to the highest bidder for control over US media landscape.

[–] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world 29 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Gonna be Saudi Arabia taking majority stakes there, no doubt about it.

[–] cmbabul@slrpnk.net 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

If China wanted to they could drown the saudis out

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 21 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

China's game may be to let the rest of the world eat each other and then step in to the chaos left.

[–] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's probably in their interest to continue having a lot of stupid Americans with money to buy their products while they hold our debt. Unless another market exists to replace us, we can't be allowed to completely collapse. Not that it's much better being in limbo.

[–] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

While China definitely wouldn't want to lose the US market entirely, I'm pretty sure at this point they consider the EU market a lot more important. Which is why they won't allow Putin to nuke Kiev.

But wouldn't allow a Chinese company to own a social media site operating in the US.

[–] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 18 points 2 weeks ago

The Chinese didn't paid enough

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 weeks ago

The bribes didn't go through yet.

Side thought, I don't think the current political structure of the US would suit china, if they ended up holding soft power over it. I think they'd purge people pretty quickly.

The harvested data wasn't going to the 'right' places.

Osama bin Laden is laughing his ass off!

Finally, I can buy Fox News and turn it into what it was meant to be: 24/7 news about foxes

[–] Aqarius@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

I feel I would end up watching that more than I would be willing to admit

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago

Nice. certain countries I can't mention here can skip the middle man and just own our propoganda outlets directly.

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 16 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Basically nothing could go wrong, because Israel and the oil lobby already owns all the media lol

Come on Canada, you know what to do.

Actually I'm not sure it's worth it. It's still giving money to Americans. But it would be funny to be able to inundate them with propaganda of our choice.

[–] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Hmmm. Canada could buy 49% of Fox. Some sympathetic American group 2% and slowly make it sane.

[–] Tyrq@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 weeks ago

That's some maple covered neighbourly propaganda there eh, we'll get you spruced up in no time.

You'll get to know the log jammers waltz whether you like it or not

I'd love to see this smug asshole thrown in prison. The way douchenozzles like him pretend they are being above board on everything while gaslighting everyone.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

trump is the FCC. Why show that bald, glasses guy?

[–] Corvidae@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

He's the Chairman of the FCC Brendan Carr.

Someone has to implement tiny-d donnie's vibes, though.

Yes, we know he's all-in on the actual cancel culture that cons crave, so donnie picked him for that reason.

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This just means that no one watches TV news anymore. God knows, its been 27 years since I have.

[–] myyass@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

This just means that no one watches TV ~~news~~ anymore. I have free cable, long story, and I still don't watch it.

I bet it's the saudis.

Great crowd to be friends with...

[–] Uranus_Hz@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Isn’t Rupert Murdock Australian?

[–] pulsewidth@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

He renounced his Australian citizenship in 1985, when he became a full US citizen.

[–] monkeyslikebananas2@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

If you were writing the story of the end of the American Empire you would be right around the part where leadership was selling out to the highest bidder to try to save themselves.

[–] vercetti@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Save themselves from what? As the country continues to deteriorate, the parasites profiting from its downfall will just go somewhere else. They can afford it.

It's the dumbasses that keep supporting these con artists that are going to suffer.

Ask any other country, where US money is in every media.

Cries in Postmedia Network Canada Corp

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 weeks ago

So not JUST Israel? Let's be real. This is in reality just a way to legalize Zionist interest. It's not like they're gonna let the CCP start a media station

[–] TwinTitans@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Late stage capitalism. Line must go up!

[–] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Middle Eastern royalty, Putin, and Xi Jinping can now influence US elections just like the US can influence Canadian elections through Postmedia Network. The prize of national lawmaking now goes to the highest international bidder. Very consistent with Jabba the Hutt willing to have the oil industry keeping him "elected".

[–] amgine@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

He looks exactly like what you’d expect

[–] Toasticus@piefed.social 2 points 2 weeks ago

Get Middle-Eastern influence out of American Media. They've no business being involved.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 2 points 2 weeks ago

China's been pushing down hard on the movie industry for decades. The majority of AMC executives put friendliness with China in the bio on their profiles. Disney capitulates to China to the extent that they're willing to remake posters excluding african americans.
