Community Rules

You must post before you leave

Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.

Use content warnings and/or mark as NSFW when appropriate. Most posts with content warnings likely need to be marked NSFW.

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Avoid shilling for corporations, posting advertisements, or promoting exploitation of workers.

Proselytization, support, or defense of authoritarianism is not welcome. This includes but is not limited to: imperialism, nationalism, genocide denial, ethnic or racial supremacy, fascism, Nazism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, etc.

Avoid AI generated content.

Avoid misinformation.

Avoid incomprehensible posts.

No threats or personal attacks.

No spam.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Looks like a 3D model to me. Happy to be proven wrong though.

[–] KSPAtlas@sopuli.xyz 45 points 1 week ago (3 children)

how is ai slop getting this popular

[–] Goldmage263@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago

A Lemming should have enought time to throw something together in ms paint. Unless... it's one of the Lemmings that only has GIMP installed.

I am not great at spotting generated images. I just assumed that it has been a while and since nobody has said anything it was fine.

i just use lemmy and sort by new :3

but rss feeds are also really cool and arguably cooler <3

[–] N0tTr0xy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 week ago

lemmy has rss feeds

Sort by scaled is pretty decent too.

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I asked pretty early on in one of the fediverse coms if the Hot or All sorts are personalized at all. People told me it doesn't work like that here, that's what the developers were trying to get away from

[–] MxRemy@piefed.social 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

None of the feeds are personalized to the individual user afaik, but some of them are weighted by overall engagement, right? Like a post that gets a lot of up votes gets boosted?

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 week ago

yep. That's as usual

[–] magic_smoke@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I miss when machine learning features where called an algorithm instead of ai.

Artificial impositions

[–] MoonRaven@feddit.nl 15 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Never gave up on rss myself. It just works.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 5 points 1 week ago

I've always loved the idea, but never got around to collecting sources

[–] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

I guess you can say, shit just works ;)

[–] swooper@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

How is everyone finding new rss feeds?

[–] rustydrd@sh.itjust.works 26 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's is the thing: I typically don't find new feeds unless I specifically look for them (using web search, podcast websites etc). It leaves me the fuck alone, and I love that about RSS.

[–] derry@midwest.social 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But how are the powers that be suppose to tell you what you should know and want??? /s

[–] rustydrd@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

Well, I got chipped with Bill Gates' COVID vaccine, so... Best of both worlds.

[–] edg@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago

If I see a good article posted somewhere I'll then check out their other articles/posts. If I like what I'm seeing I add it to my RSS feed. That's all there is to it, and after a while you'll find yourself with a nice long blogroll.

[–] derry@midwest.social 6 points 1 week ago

Figure out your interests, check web sites that are about the interests for rss feeds. You can also create rss feeds from lemmy and mastodon.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I use Feeder on my phone. It's great

[–] HulkSmashBurgers@reddthat.com 4 points 1 week ago

Yes Feeder on my phone and fluent on desk/laptop!

[–] k0e3@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm not the most technical person in the world so I don't remember how these things worked. What's the best way to organize rss?? I remember assing 'em to my igoogle homepage.

[–] openrev0lt@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

I’ve been using NetNewsWire for years, it’s been great.

[–] celeste@feddit.org 6 points 1 week ago

Antennapod👍🏻

Capy Reader with Fresh RSS server

[–] dubs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago

I switched to this setup after I saw the drama behind ttrss. I've been loving both, even if it was a bit of a pain to import the OPML.

[–] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 5 points 1 week ago

Yeah you know what, I should. Let's do this.

[–] CurlyWurlies4All@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 week ago

Feeder has been great

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago

reject algorithm! literally just sort by new or only check the subs / subscribed communities tabs.

[–] edg@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I'm really hoping that Thunderbird includes feeds in the things it syncs across devices. If they did that and also integrated some kind of markdown personal wiki then it would explode in popularity, IMO.

Oh hey it me

RSS is a tailored algorithm 😔

[–] rustydrd@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

[Guy looking at butterfly]: Is this an algorithm?

[–] alapakala@quokk.au 3 points 1 week ago

threadiverse is an algorithm😔

[–] BeardedBlaze@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Every algorithm is tailored. You not being able to sort an RSS feed a certain way, is a function of Admins turning off that particular algorithm.
