The Israeli Supreme Court ruled in 2022 that the government can revoke an Israeli person’s nationality if they fail to show “loyalty,” including through acts that are found to be treasonous. The interior minister must submit a revocation request to the justice minister and judges must also validate the revocation.

Just apartheid state things.

Pledging allegiance to the flag springs to mind, from two historical examples.

[–] Taldan@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

At least that is a non-binding cultural propaganda tool

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Sure, and joining the Hitler Jugend was also "optional".

Sorry for going Hitler, but I already did so whatever.

[–] Taldan@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

A crime against humanity if it would make any person stateless

Religious right to the land of Palestine until the Israeli government doesn't consider you Jew enough

[–] 0x0@infosec.pub 2 points 3 weeks ago

Where would they send them, gaza?

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 45 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

This is something a strong nation that is secure in its moral identity would do

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

They are a free nation. Free to deport or murder anyone they want to.

[–] Rat_in_a_hat@lemmy.ca 13 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

The only democracy in the middle east apparently!

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

*Democracy with Israeli characteristics

[–] Rat_in_a_hat@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 weeks ago

Sounds like apartheid!

[–] BeatTakeshi@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Most moral army in the world!

[–] BeatTakeshi@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

So moral it even investigates itself!

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 42 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

Must be painful when Israeli Jews* point out and unveil the atrocities perpetrated by Israel.

Of course they call it treason.

Can't wait to see the film. Classic Streisand effect!

* going by their names

PS: I thought NAZA is a portmanteau of Nazi and Gaza, created by the film makers. Israeli intelligence itself coming up with that name is a self-own imo.

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

PS

Yes, the name is very unfortunately hilarious. You know 75% of the people seeing the term (like me before I understood what it actually meant) will associated it with "nazi", especially considering the current state of Israeli politics. It's almost too on the nose.

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 26 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

I just want to point out how to many people, the crimes against the Palestinians aren't legitimate until the story is told by an Israeli. The way Israeli voices are viewed as credible while Palestinian voices are suspicious is one of the most pervasive consequences of the colonial project.

I don't mean to criticize these filmmakers for their identities or imply their project is bad. I'm saying that all of the coverage of this leans heavily on their identities as a mark and sign of authenticity and repute. Compare to the Arab journalists who literally died to bring you this same story.

[–] andrewrgross@slrpnk.net 15 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah: the filmmakers themselves have said this repeatedly as well.

[–] reptar@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

As wrong as that is, it's also why it is necessary

[–] andrewrgross@slrpnk.net 21 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I choose to believe that 10 years from now, Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor will be leaders of a free Israel-Palestine, and the people who called for their denaturalization will be dead or living out life sentences for perpetrating atrocities.

I hope Abraham and Szor are careful, though. That future does assume that they survive long enough to reach it.

Either way, there can be no doubt that history will view their journalism and activism with great admiration.

[–] Cheese_man@lemmy.world 16 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Isn't Israel supposed to be a bastion of freedom and democracy in the Middle East?

[–] rumimevlevi@sh.itjust.works 24 points 3 weeks ago

It never was

[–] BigBoyShuanzee@aussie.zone 13 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Israel are the Nazis of the 2020s I hate you Israel as much as I hate Nazi Germany and almost as much as I hate child predators...

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 weeks ago

I mean, the IDF are essentially child predators at this point so...

[–] Rat_in_a_hat@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Just the 2020s? You should hear some interviews with early IDF members when they were ethnically cleansing Palestine in the 40s and 50s.

These old farts on camera just chuckling to themselves as they retell gunning down civilians that were on their knees.

[–] rumimevlevi@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

In the documentary one of the Nazi was laughing at the story of a 16years old being raped, another one was about shotting palestinians in cages

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Reminder of the irony of the term:

NAZA is a military acronym derived from the Hebrew term nezek agavi,[4] and is used by the Israeli Defense Force to indicate the number of civilians expected to be killed in an airstrike as collateral damage, also known as Non-combatant casualty value

Ironic that the Israeli government uses a term that many people will confuse with "NAZI".

Nazint, short for Nazi, innit?

[–] Rubanski@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Could also be a codename for Wernher von Braun

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

"That's not my department!"

;-)

[–] Doorbook@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

The entire co concept of Zionist state is based on genocide. Not sure what these people expect when they realize this system for what it is. Every human coming from another country should pack their stuff and leave before it is too late.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

They literally want to go Old Testament on people, and we should kind of be above that by now.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 weeks ago

They've been raised in indoctrination.

[–] panthera_@lemmy.today 3 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Democrats should propose that if the NAZA filmmakers' citizenships are revoked, they would be permitted to come to the US.

[–] andrewrgross@slrpnk.net 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

With all due respect, Democrats shouldn't be offering safe harbor to exiled dissidents: they should be threatening to sanction Israel if it exiles dissidents.

They should be a doing a lot of other things too, but we need to be much clearer with our demands. These people are Israeli, and deserve protection in their own country. I don't think they want to leave, I think they want their country to change.

[–] panthera_@lemmy.today 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

But Democrats would win support from those who disapprove of the Israeli treatment of Palestinians. It would also force Republicans to take a side.

Once their citizenship is revoked, Israel might expel them. The Democratic proposal would give them an opportunity to come to the US.

[–] andrewrgross@slrpnk.net 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I take issue with this framing on multiple levels.

First: our goals should not be to score political points on Twitter: they should be to provide security, dignity, and political rights to the persecuted.

Second, inviting political activists exiled by a country we materially support to the US is like demanding ICE deport foreign nationals to nicer third countries: it misses the point completely. This shouldn't happen. And US lawmakers have the power to stop it, so that's what they should do.

Finally, the current Democratic leadership is Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jefferies. Despite highly visible outliers, this whole premise assumes Democrats want to support human rights in Israel. This is like believing that Trump is working tirelessly to bring Epstein's coconspiritors to justice.

[–] panthera_@lemmy.today 0 points 3 weeks ago

Democrats are more inclined to stop what is happening in Gaza. Remember Trump at one time was thinking of displacing Palestinians in Gaza and making it into a French Riviera.

The NAZA filmmakers do not support Israel's military activities in Gaza. Democrats proposing entry to the US for the filmmakers if their citizenship is revoked would not only win votes from those opposing Israel's military activities in Gaza but provide publicity for the film.

From https://www.timesofisrael.com/gavin-newsom-says-democrats-overwhelmingly-opposed-to-the-current-regime-in-israel/

California Governor Gavin Newsom, a 2028 presidential hopeful, ventured farther than ever in his criticisms of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a weekend interview that delved into the Democratic Party’s relationship with Israel.

“I think it’s overwhelmingly opposed to the current regime in Israel,” Newsom said of the party, in a PBS News Hour interview with Amna Nawaz.

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 1 points 3 weeks ago

AIPAC publicly backs 152 democrats so probably won't happen

[–] Tolc@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

so NAZA filmmakers are israelis? lol

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

There are a lot of progressive Israelis that are fully on board with what us in the West are saying about the genocide.

You don't get to hear them much but there is definitely resistance. Thank god.

[–] Tolc@lemmy.world -4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

if they were against israel, they wouldnt be in israel and be its citizens. Hope this helps

[–] TrippaSnippa@aussie.zone 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)
