The Mr.Beast Movie feels a bit like cotton candy flavoured cotton candy.

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Why would you buy his book??

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 2 points 10 hours ago

He has a lot of fans. They would probably buy anything of his.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 63 points 1 day ago (2 children)

By sold well do you mean he bought himself a million copies so it could be said that it sold well?

That's the entire fucking streamer house of cards.

[–] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That’s just a normal thing best selling authors do

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 hours ago

Yeah the ceo of my company did this to then use the books as swag at tradeshows and meetings

[–] Iconoclast@feddit.uk 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

You got any evidence to back that claim up?

[–] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 11 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (1 children)

It's a pretty commonly utilized tactic that's especially employed by grifters who want to lend credence to the grift and political operatives who want to... lend credence to their grift. Occasionally though by people who want to gain notoriety in a field they're new in, keep up a streak of success if they're not sure about the book's quality, or do a book tour and have something to sell the talkshows. In all cases it's employed by people with more money than talent.

A source among many about NYT influence peddling: https://londondaily.com/evtepe-new-york-times-bestseller-list-exposed-fake-editorial-manipulation-not-sales-based-rankings

This other source is more specific to what the other commenter was referring to though: https://factually.co/fact-checks/politics/politicians-political-groups-buying-bulk-books-reports-2f81ef

[–] Iconoclast@feddit.uk -4 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I wasn't questioning whether anyone has ever done this. I was questioning whether they have even a single piece of evidence suggesting that this particular person has done so or if this accusation is purely motivated by simply not liking them which does not justify spreading disinformation.

[–] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 9 points 20 hours ago

The source for the claim of booksales in the original article are the same sources who can't be trusted in mine, so it's a fair bet that influence peddling at the very least played a part. NYT wheels and deals off popular people who are authors, always has.

This guy's floated the idea of running for president in the future.

Our timeline is truly railed.

[–] FUCKING_CUNO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 1 day ago

Is it at an appropriate reading level for his fans? Perhaps a picture book?

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I've never seen his videos but I rarely hear good things

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 6 points 23 hours ago

its mainly targeted towards gen Alpha audience, stupid gimmicks for a impressionable young audience. also the biggest drama was the LUNCHLY disaster with KSI, paul brother, and another influencer. they made a wierd commercial how "its the best lunchable-like food they ate" and all of them look they had a gun to thier heads.

[–] dudeface@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

I have watched a few, once you have seen one you have basically seen them all though, they have a rigid formula

I needed something to talk to my nephew about when he was younger

And the number one movie was called "Ass". And that's all it was.

A movie about a YouTube star. I wonder what it will reveal. What social statement will it make. How will it show the art of AI sloping your way to a script and a thumbnail.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

People gonna stupid. Can't fix that.

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

And publishers pay people to buy their books so they get on the best seller list.

And publishers pay ghost writers to write many “celebrity” authored books.

Ah, Mr. Beast... I didn't know he had a book. I remember his vids. They were algo-hitting "do crazy stuff" survivor-like videos, along with philantrophy vids. Dude's got issues, but rarely do you get a youtuber that's super popular and isn't a problem offscreen.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 23 hours ago

his eyes are soulless like dolls eyes, he really has very little emotion going on.

[–] kylie_kraft@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I sure don't care

[–] LordFireCrotch@lemmy.today 0 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I didn't even know he wrote a book.

Just curious what you don't like about him.

I don't consume any of his content. All I really know about him is he does gameshow things and dug some wells in Africa I think.

Or maybe that was eye surgery?

Hell maybe both, I don't even know.

Oh and something about his teeth.

[–] sundray@piefed.social 6 points 1 day ago

I don't find his antics entertaining. But also he might be a bad person on top of that: https://time.com/7010441/mrbeast-accusations-explained/

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 23 hours ago

his influence sells very well in ASIA apparently, they like his shitty food he sells, and his "comical" channel.
