IT'S THE SAME FUCKING MAPS SAME FUCKING PUZZLES! I'M SICK! I'M ILL. FUCK ME

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuFfiTEr2yc

It even starts with that pretentious ambiance emblematic of the times (opinion). I don't like it. It may not just be a remaster, but we're getting the same temples that need to be put to rest and given new fundamental themes within them (fact).

I don’t like that they did away with the multiple equipment buttons like in WW and TP. The BotW and ToTK item interface is my least favorite part of those games.

I kinda like the realism. It takes me back to the 2000-2001 tech demo of Link vs Ganondorf right before we got Wind Waker.

The real pay off of this style won’t be Ocarina but Majora’s Mask Remake. I really wish they’d port WW and TP to the switch 2 instead of locked out behind a subscription.

[–] WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I've softened my initial reaction as I think about that early WW tech demo where it used to be like "yeah right, as if it would really look like that." Because now it can really look like that. I concede it is pretty cool

[–] marxisthayaca@hexbear.net 3 points 16 hours ago

It’s so funny cause Wind Waker has some of the best fighting mechanics from any game, besides TP.

[–] Beaver@hexbear.net 46 points 2 days ago

It's fine, I'm happy for a new generation to enjoy this one.

But also...

[–] WokePalpatine@hexbear.net 30 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Look how disgustingly over-detailed his hat is. Mark from ElectricUnderground released a video on the Star Fox remake recently and he mentioned how readability always gets shoved aside for detail and aesthetics in games nowadays, so you keep having this horror vacui-like art styles in these remakes when they should know better. But it's superficially more impressive in a trailer to add shit like this, so they keep doing it.

real-navi-patriot Focus L, there's a Gold Skulluta nearby!! Check your Map!!

[–] WokePalpatine@hexbear.net 17 points 1 day ago

The quest log they added to the pause menu is basically this.

[–] MayoPete@hexbear.net 23 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Why is Link wearing a wrinkled jalapeño on his head!?!

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

matches the one in his pants

Don't sexualize Young Link.

Old Link (17) is fair game.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

i have never known link's age and i'm not going to start now

[–] WokePalpatine@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

In order to defeat the paedophiles I have researched the exact ages of every Nintendo character.

Edit: people are DMing me questions already answered by this post.

The texture looks like those corn sacks made of plastic

[–] WokePalpatine@hexbear.net 17 points 1 day ago

Antialiasing/supersampling isn't up to snuff for this level of detail yet though so instead you get disgustingly grainy look on the screen too from little bits like this. Imagine how amazing even the 3DS remake would look up-resolutioned on a 4K screen by comparison where they weren't adding chintz to every single character model.

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Reminds me of the XBox era of games that just crammed unnecessary bumping literally everywhere.

[–] GiorgioBoymoder@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago

nintendo graphics hardware is just catching up so they gotta show it off too.

[–] RNAi@hexbear.net 33 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Damn, the original game was fucking nuts for its time

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (6 children)

I scoured that game for secrets. Playing and replaying searching for rumored hidden triforce parts and instead finding all sorts of weird little developer crumbs.

Your Unreal slop bore me.

I didn't completely dislike the trailer but is so wrong... the human faces are strange, the texture effect they chose make things looks like plastic, is like plastic figures.

[–] RondoRevolution@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

I really disliked it at first, but by the end of the presentation I liked it.

It does look a bit like an unreal game at times. But I think saying it looks like AI slop is too much.

Also it has an offical Brasilian dub, which is great to see.

Makes me want to play the original since I don't have a Switch 2 and I never played it.

[–] varmint@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago

This would be really cool if the game didn't already exist

[–] CredibleBattery@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago

once more, nintendo hires that man

[–] jackmaoist@hexbear.net 17 points 1 day ago

That'll be 100$

[–] tombruzzo@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago

Ship of Harkinian exists, is free, and runs on almost everything

[–] imogen_underscore@hexbear.net 24 points 2 days ago

the unreal engine gritty mario parody is just real now i guess they are just making those

[–] ComRed2@hexbear.net 22 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I hate to say it, but it looks like one of those AI videos someone made to troll people into thinking it's real.

[–] Sleve_McDichael@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It absolutely does, everything has this weird plastic sheen to it. The design of the child character is especially off putting, the faces and bodied are all so weirdly proportioned, and the voices sound uncanny coming out of them.

It’s a shame that this series can have such slick designs like Wind Waker or Four Swords or BotW and then create this

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 23 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

This looks AWFULLLLLL I fucking hate it

Why does his face look like a 6 year old come onnnn

[–] RaisedFistJoker@hexbear.net 23 points 2 days ago

grokarina of time

[–] Moomoo_Milk@hexbear.net 22 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I like it. Genuinely looking forward to playing it here in a couple of months. It looks like a pretty faithful remaster of the original and I'm all for it.

Also looks like Matt Mercer is being cemented as the voice of Ganondorf. That is something I'm certainly not sad about. I like his voice.

Yeah it looks like a, mostly nice, visual upgrade but I'm not gonna buy a switch 2 for it

[–] 9to5@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago

Thats my sentiment as well. Nice enough...but thats about it.

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

For me bad voice acting is like nails on a chalkboard the instant I heard Zelda making anime surprise sounds I had to turn it off.

But I mean they're pretty much following the template of Star Fox 64 remake so there's nothing surprising here. And I bet this game will make a bajillion dollars because consoomers are credulous morons and it will usher in an entire era of Nintendo remakes which will be akin to the Disney remake era where every single one sucks but makes a billion dollars.

[–] curmudgeonthefrog@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Great analogy to Disney, they're the two big family friendly IP cartels. Once Disney discovered the money printing remake cheat code it makes sense Nintendo would follow. It's also extremely evident since they released the switch 2 (essentially the same thing as switch 1 but more power) that they've become creatively bankrupt. It's sad, Nintendo made its reputation on trying new weird things even if many were gimmicks. Now they're going to skate by on their IP alone until it busts like people getting sick of the superhero slop.

Did they just give up on the face? What is going on with those Wii eyes.

[–] nfreak@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 day ago

it legitimately looks AI generated tbh

[–] abc@hexbear.net 22 points 2 days ago (4 children)

IT'S THE SAME FUCKING MAPS SAME FUCKING PUZZLES! I'M SICK! I'M ILL. FUCK ME

Well yes, they never said they were 'completely remaking OOT'

Looks like dogshit though. Purely a remake for the odd number of people who have avoided the 3DS remake and the port of OOT to the N64 Emulator & have somehow never emulated it themselves and the Gen Alpha children who can only play games with Unreal Engine textures. Actually upsetting that this & the shitty live action movie are all we're getting for the 40th anniversary. No announcement of even the title of the next game, no port of Twilight Princess HD to the eshop or Twilight Princess to the GC subscription emulator. I would have actually even taken news about the Legend of Zelda world at Universal or something over the shitty ass Unreal Engine OOT. Genuinely a soulless remake

[–] Mutalisk@hexbear.net 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well yes, they never said they were 'completely remaking OOT'

Yeah, I'm not really sure why people expected a whole new game with Nintendo not advertising it as such with only a few months left before release

I really don't like the new aesthetic and the zora king going "mweep" is the only voice acting I needed, but it'll be fun to see speedrunners find new ways to break this game at least. After Ganondoor and Ganonfloor I wonder what things can be used to just warp to the end of the game next doggirl-grin Ship of Harkinian remains the only OoT version you'd ever need

It looks hideous, the high detail textures really clash with the character models, which are still pretty close to the N64 game.

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Isn't Nintendo very firm on its position that kids games are for kids?

So basically, this is Ocarina of Time for today's children, rather than something for adult fans. It's the same maps and the same puzzles because kids haven't played them before.

[–] MayoPete@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

But they had to keep the Water Temple which kids loved

Call me when hackers find the original prototype for zelda 64 that had the 3d market town and link with no pants.

[–] RondoRevolution@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

To complement my previous comment, I think this short by TBSkyen does a good job actually analysing the aesthetic of the game.
