Why do you care about the place were it was developed? Languages know no borders. Regardless whether those are natural languages or programming languages.

I mean thereโ€™s legitimate concerns of where donations are going to. People donโ€™t want to support bad actor nations.

[โ€“] realitaetsverlust@piefed.zip 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That's nonsense. People are not responsible for the country they are born in. Just russia is a morally bankrupt dogshit fucking country doesn't mean that every russian open source developer is that aswell aswell.

Are we going to pretend that Hyprland and Ladybird donโ€™t exist?

[โ€“] fruitycoder@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The issues with them aren't because of their nationality but those individuals specifically.

Itโ€™s valuable to know the backgrounds of the software stacks we use.

Sure, but there's a difference between Donaldland and some guys in their basement writing a spec. The people do not necessarily support the government.

It makes more sense to keep the money from companies than free software developers.

Nobody has mentioned this guy yet

A photo of Bjarne Stroustrup, the Danish creator of the C++ programming language. The photo was probably taken in the early 90s. Bjarne is sitting in an office chair with his feet up on a desk, but the image has been humorously photoshopped, so that his legs are unnaturally long, and there are six CRT monitors on the desk, thanks to the photoshopping.

Not sure ARM64 really counts as it's own thing it is so "normal". (Unlike ARM32/24)

Qt originates from Norway. Most of the dev team was in Oslo, with small teams in Berlin and Brisbane.

[โ€“] jabjoe@feddit.uk 1 points 1 month ago

I agree Qt is a language. C+++. It own preprocessor before the C/C++ preprocessor. Unless that has gone now..... been a while since I was made to do Qt.

Erlang was developed by Ericsson, a Swedish company.

[โ€“] marius@feddit.org 6 points 1 month ago

Why was Erlang not developed in Erlangen though?

It's not about tearing others down but about recognizing the talent we have at home.
