Craig Mazin never said this at all. The closest source I could find on it is a seemingly bot generated article about a sarcastic tweet that someone made about him.

Philomena Cunk on video games

[–] whereitsat@lemmy.zip 10 points 17 hours ago

movies and tv shows are pretty simple -- you had charlie chaplin and leave it to beaver and then the last of us on HBO.

i have a private school/ivy league education in film theory btw. i'm short for time, so excuse the grammer.

[–] BreadOven@lemmy.world 10 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

As far as I'm concerned Pong is the ONLY video game worth playing.

[–] Imhotep@lemmy.world 5 points 17 hours ago

Pretty simple they hit the ball in your direction, you hit it back.

Truck simulator 2012 changed that.

[–] BilSabab@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

all downhill from there... not

Hahahaha yes!

[–] umbraroze@slrpnk.net 4 points 17 hours ago

Things have changed significantly since Super Mario Bros. was released. For example, vast majority of video games released these days feature no senseless violence toward turtles. Many even portray turtles in factual, chilly way! 🐢

Honestly, I'm more angry about the meme creator thinking that Super Mario Bros. was 1972.

[–] BilSabab@lemmy.world 6 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

1972 Mario would've been a literal room-size machine

[–] JimVanDeventer@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

A part of me really does want to get onboard with the “there isn’t enough representation of women in video games” train, but I just love looking at dudes’ bums.

There are actually very few games overall where you jump on enemies.

Church climbing simulator?

[–] BigBananaDealer@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

this is the real reason why the people of lemmy hate the industry

[–] myyass@lemmy.world 43 points 1 day ago (2 children)

That's right because playing Dark Souls, I had to insert my sanity in the coin slot every time I died and it said Thanks Obama.

[–] myyass@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Ah yes the torture boss fight.

[–] BreadOven@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

At least on the first time or two.

[–] myyass@lemmy.world 1 points 19 hours ago

Yeah I got a good giggle out of it.

[–] Stefan_S_from_H@piefed.zip 216 points 1 day ago (6 children)

It's frustrating how people in charge are so far away from reality.

Remember when Kathleen Kennedy said that writing for Star Wars is hard because there aren't any books and comics?

[–] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 73 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Super Mario Bros was published in 1985 not 1972 but yeah.

Back in the 90's, video games were new enough that you could forgive the film industry for not being familiar with them. It's been 30 years. They still don't get it.

[–] grahamja@reddthat.com 36 points 1 day ago (3 children)

They don't play video games, they do coke or children. They live different lives than us poors.

[–] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 29 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I kinda stand with Yahtzee Croshaw on this: The video game industry is a lot bigger than the film industry and makes a hell of a lot more money, so filmmakers should probably do a little learning their place.

Yes, like GoldenEye. No one played it, and it was definitely not a popular FPS where you jumped on enemies. It's an obscure game based on the obscure movie where James Bond jumped on every single woman he saw. /s

There have been more good Movie: The Video Game releases than Video Game: The Movie.

[–] AngryRedHerring@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

You're being too generous. In the 90s we were playing PlayStation and TV shows were still using the death sound from Atari Pac-Man

[–] EggInDisguise@lemmy.blahaj.zone 108 points 1 day ago (8 children)

It's like hearing someone say "there were no strong female leads in movies before the Hunger Games"

I've got a suspicion that this is one of those "say something intentionally stupid so that everyone jumps on the train to correct you and create engagement".

The showrunner of TLOS was also the head writer for the game.

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It was the other showrunner, Craig Mazin, who said this. He doesn’t work in vidya gaems Though I can’t find the original source where he said it. So could be a shitpost.

[–] Zwrt@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

According to google, this popular meme is entirely fictional.

I do not trust google but i am skeptical all around

Edit with the real quote that inspired this:

“They didn't shoot anything out of their eyeballs. They were just people. And that, in and of itself, is remarkably rare in games”

Combined with calling tlos “the greatest story that has ever been told in video games”

The Last of Sus?

[–] FluidBeef@quokk.au 14 points 1 day ago

I got pretty fed up with always needing change to play Counter Strike.

[–] thiscat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 80 points 1 day ago (1 children)

i love how it says 1972 while showing the original super mario bros
