airpods are stupid as fuck and communism would not have invented them

[–] kuiskaaja@lemmy.ml 20 points 1 day ago

karl marx would've advocated for the headphone jack

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 2 points 23 hours ago

I genuinely like my airpods 🥺

[–] CliffordBigRedDog@hexbear.net 34 points 1 day ago

very-intelligent

Um you claim to be a capitalist and yet you benefit of public infrastructure like roads, public education and you presumably pay taxes?

[–] juice_@hexbear.net 41 points 1 day ago

To the capitalist, every luxury of the worker seems to be reprehensible, and everything that goes beyond the most abstract need – be it in the realm of passive enjoyment, or a manifestation of activity – seems to him a luxury

Kinda just want to slug every single person expecting asceticism from the left. We're fucking leftists, not buddhist monks.

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 52 points 1 day ago

If you're not a Maoist guerilla living in the woods and cleaning AKs, are you even a communist?

Something something Christianity

Edit: what I didn't write was that the Christianity stuff also applies to the right.

Hey, Thomas Merton is pretty cool though.

garcia-cock-shotty you didn't say what kind of slug.

[–] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I actually think that some measure of asceticism for professional revolutionaries is useful both to keep sight on the primary goal and for propaganda, but it shouldn't be expected from masses.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I swear some of these people think that all leftists are some sort of Khmer Rogue fan cult.

[–] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

The interesting part is that Khmer Rouge managed to somewhat improve the life of peasants, while utterly destroying the life of urban dwellers, so even them aren't really an example.

All of this stuff is made in communist China. I'm going to lose my mind.

[–] Owl@hexbear.net 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

China's a hybrid economy so it only count as communist when it's doing things I don't like.

Checkmate, atheists.

[–] Hexamerous@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

parenti-hands

China exist in a state of both capitalist/communist at the same time. Only when we observe if the outcome is good or bad can we decide what it is.

Yet you participate in society very-intelligent

[–] Lowleekun@hexbear.net 50 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Sadly the vast majority has no idea what communism is, apart from what decades of CIA propaganda has told them. Hell, most don't even know what capitalism is. The average person might tell you capitalism is when "money and lots of stuff to consume".

If you can one say one thing about our system, than that is is ohh so good of spreading Dunning Kruger into everyone. Years of education have given us the feeling that we just know a lot of stuff, certainly enough to have the right opinion on pretty much everything.

There was this old Vegan Sidekick comic where he made a pretty good response to this:

“Why are you putting me through all this scrutiny and no one else?”

No one hypocrisy-mongers fascists. No one tells someone against unions they’re hypocritical for demanding workers have no rights but relying on labor. No one calls any of the “anti-globalist” people to get off the internet.

quick question which costs more a month of rent or airpods and smart watch? emergency visit to hospital? semester of college? giving birth? hospice care? required car?

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago

hmm, there were times that an apple watch was more than my rent

[–] ZeroHora@lemmy.ml 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Poverty vow is something that Jesus said, the fact that people get confuse about this tells a lot about communism.

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago

Johnny Cash - Man in Black:

I wear the black for those who've never read
Or listened to the words that Jesus said
About the road to happiness through love and charity
Why, you'd think He's talking straight to you and me

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 30 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Aren't you socially ostracized if you don't use iphones in America, a move pushed by Apple itself so people feel required to own an iphone?

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 24 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I fully believe you on this, but I’m morbidly curious about reading more.

And yes, people will somehow look down on you for not using Apple.

[–] regul@hexbear.net 32 points 1 day ago (3 children)

If you have an Android phone you will often be omitted from group chats because then you have a green text bubble instead of blue. If you are on the group chat they will bring up your green bubble constantly.

[–] NinjaGinga@hexbear.net 35 points 1 day ago

yeonmi-park In the BurgerReich, people are pitted against each other on the basis of the color of their text bubbles. This is considered good and normal.

[–] Bob_Robertson_IX@discuss.tchncs.de 22 points 1 day ago (2 children)

If you are on the group chat they will bring up your green bubble constantly

That only happens if you're chatting with assholes. If you find yourself in a group chat with assholes, just leave.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

they make the green box harder to read to reinforce this petty bullshit

[–] regul@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago

My sister-in-law lives in Orange County and has Orange County consumerism brain.

She's harmless. It doesn't bother me because I know she doesn't know jack about tech.

[–] aReallyCrunchyLeaf@lemmy.ml 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I mean tbf RCS is a fucking dumpster fire, often RCS will just drop you from the chat all on its own

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

Yeah I have so many duplicate chats because of weird shit like this.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago

There's a lot more news articles on this, but I can't be bothered get all of them, but heres one from wsj https://archive.is/fMMzX

[–] quarrk@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

This is only in particular social groups. Mainly school age children - almost all of them use iOS. Yet still it’s about 50-50 for the nation overall, it’s not at all at “herd immunity” levels where you can reasonably expect every single friend to use iOS

Idk, I have mostly used Android. Maybe that explains some things.

[–] just_an_average_joe@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wait isn't the issue using apple (a company on bds list) rather than using headphones and watch?

Like communists (cuz of anti-colonialism aspect) are pro-palestine so it makes sense to avoid apple.

[–] agentant@hexbear.net 21 points 1 day ago

That's reasonable and a valid thing to point out but I don't think that's what this person's problem was. It's possible that's what the original person as going for but they probably should have clarified if that's what they were pointing out. The second person was just overtly anti-communist(or at least this weird form of "any luxury is bourgeois" communist).
