Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

I see fit women with long legs and wide hips art and I immediately know this is Jorymo

Nice art!

I feel you. I've played video games almost all my life, but during a period of unemployment last year, I had to sell my PS5 and Switch (which I got during much better times) to pay a winter power bill. And consoles have only gotten more expensive since then, thanks to AI data centers monopolizing digital components. I did find a new job, but I'm making less money than ever, and can't save, I'm paycheck-to-paycheck. As for my PC, it's a mid-range Win10 laptop from 2016 that's barely holding on, it can't upgrade to Win11 and can only run the simplest games.

So I'm now mostly priced out of a lifelong hobby. Can't play GTA6. No idea when I'll be able to play big new games again.

[–] GarbadgeGoober@feddit.org 11 points 1 day ago

Man sorry to hear that. I am sure there are better times ahead for you.

I feel you about the price hikes, had the same issue with my old machine.

But started looking for games at GoG and found some fun old classics or god games that do run on my old machine too.

[–] dorumon@lemmy.cafe 4 points 1 day ago

Man honestly. With how tough my life has been. I have been extremely angry and vindictive against Nintendo as a whole and Microsoft and Sony especially. Like they pretty much priced me and many others who are relatively young and won’t ever get jobs that pay well out of their own hobby.

That and the fact that Sony and Microsoft bought the entire game industry and fired a metric shit ton of people and bypassed unions and ruined entire lives. I just can’t anymore. Like it really is starting to look like the end to the triple A game industry as a whole. As me and many others move onto games that can be sustainably made and funded and supported.

But it’s a real shame that GTA 6 is going to be the last of its kind. Because Gen Z really doesn’t have the money for any of this. As we move onto a market of millennials and Gen X supporting most of the economy even outside of gaming as a whole and well that will eventually implode in on itself.

Honestly that all really sucks to read, and I'm sorry you've had to make those sorts of compromises. I can't offer much besides hope that all this shit is temporary, and that you'll have better times to look forward to before you know it.

That's how i feel recently before i saved enough money to upgrade my pc from a lower end pc from 2015, but in your case, you can just install linux(mint, cachy, steam) and play indie games, there's thousands of great indie that i'm sure you haven't played. There's no need to quit gaming just because the latest and newest looks so shiny and you can't play it, i literally replayed games from 2010s before this and to this day there's still tons of games i haven't even touched.

New games doesn't mean its good though.

Also since your laptop is older gen, 2nd hand part should be plenty. After i got my new pc, the old one i upgraded it to better hardware before i give it to my sister. It can run AAA game released up till 2024/25.

My laptop is only one year older than that commenter's and I'd also describe it as "midrange" (at the time), and it struggles even with those types of games. It's partly the lack of software support for the iGPU, but it just isn't fast enough even for most pixel graphic games - they don't need a LOT of performance, but they also just aren't programmed as efficiently as they would have been in 2015, nevermind the actual 90s console games that inspired them. My options on that device are basically visual novels, emulators for like SNES or Game Boy, or games more in the vein of Minesweeper.

That said, I could upgrade to a much more powerful refurb laptop for only ~200€ that should be able to play at least pixel graphic games. I do have a PC for gaming, though, so I don't bother.

The emulator's are a-coming Jory. Won't be long now. :)

[–] bandanawearingbanana@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Not for online games like Splatoon tho.

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 22 hours ago

Don't be so sure! The pretendo network brought back the wii u and 3ds services, and most switch emulators already incorporate online multiplayer functionality.

It'll take longer than the single player mode, but it will happen.

[–] RmDebArc_5@piefed.zip 3 points 22 hours ago

The new Splatoon is a single player spinoff

[–] jorymo@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

I think my computer is only marginally more powerful than a Switch 2 and wouldn't be able to emulate it well

[–] Turret3857@infosec.pub 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Check your local library; Some libraries have consoles for checkout

[–] jorymo@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Worth a shot! Though, I am not in a very big town

[–] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

Personally I can't wait for Switch 2 CFW. And ideally a Switch 2 Lite/OLED/just V2, because Jesus Christ the battery life in current Switch 2 is abysmal.

The Switch 1 is already a very cool console once you mod it. Now imagine what it could do with more modern hardware, and not that 10+ years old discount chip from nvidia that they dug up somewhere in Iraq.

Might still be a while, but I'm in no rush. Still plenty of games to play on Switch 1, and even more older games, most of which can be emulated on a Switch as well.

[–] hOrni@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I know this isn't the answer for everyone, but instead of buying a Switch 2 I just cracked my Switch 1 and decided to enjoy its library of games for free.

[–] jorymo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Alas, this specific game is a Switch 2 exclusive

[–] soyslurper2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Might I recommend 🏴‍☠️?

[–] jorymo@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

I can't pirate a Switch 2 lol

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 day ago

(is fun game)

[–] Cris_Citrus@piefed.zip 5 points 1 day ago

Specifically Splatoon Raiders, the Switch 2 exclusive single player title.

[–] usualsuspect191@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Are the characters in the game fairly small in a world of humans? Just wondering why the floor planks look so big

[–] jorymo@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

I think they're around 5 feet tall? I also just suck at scaling backgrounds lol

[–] zikzak025@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I think the characters are relatively average sized for a human. The planks are maybe just wide. Some floors are like that.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

Hey, doesn't it exist on the wii? ☺️

[–] jorymo@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Splatoon Raiders!

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago

I am sure we will be able to emulate it on PC soon enough
