Hopefully you’ll never need to! They help me locate parts of my face when I look in a mirror, cause my fusiform gyrus largely went out with my second stroke few years ago. They’re a disability aid, not so much for style, but they have the added side benefit of being easy to distinguish.
Dunno if I've said it before, but it's really cool that you share that. A lot of folks have no idea what kind of things can go on with the brain post stroke, so it's awesome when people that have gone through it educate the rest of us. Helps break down barriers

I end up thinking of them as like the big giant thick nerd glasses the military used to hand out in the seventies, the thick black rims that no one likes; and then of the people I meet, some see the glasses and know what my brain’s been through and keep quiet, but once in a while someone says “whoa, those are cool!” and I end up replying something to the tune of “buddy, it’s like complementing crutches, shh.”
I’d have ordinary glasses if I could. At least I have them in a few colors.
I honestly thought it was a stylistic thing. They look cool/it looks intentional and artsy to me. I thought it was a playful eyebrow raise in glasses form, they're fun. But I'm sorry to learn they're from a not-so-fun source.

Thanks for sharing! I'm interested to learn more - are glasses with this specifically sold to help people? Or do you always search for this particular frame style when getting new ones, because this shape helps you the most? I tried to search for more info based on what you said, but I wasn't finding anything relevant.
It's a little of both. Notched glasses can be worn by people who don't derive medical benefit from them, but they help people with facial processing issues see their own faces in photos and mirrors. It's not perfect, but it gives me a starting point.
We used to call those thick glasses "BCGs" in the military - Birth Control Glasses. They were kind of in style when I served in the mid-aughts though, so I didn't complain when mine were issued lol

But in the end, I think those glasses are a even better excuse to avoid eye contact with other people :D
Since I have no functioning fusiform gyrus after my second stroke, interpreting my face is a challenge, just trying to look in the mirror to shave is a big thing, and makeup just isn’t happening for me cause I can’t comprehend my own work, let alone inspect it.
My glasses make it so that I have a perceivable and understandable starting point to figuring out my face: my right eyebrow. Also I can tell who I am in photographs by looking for that notch.
I apologize because my glasses frustrate you, but they are a disability aid in more than one way, and I really need them.
First of all: please never apologize for tools that helps you get going in life! Those are things YOU need and my "frustration is MY frustration and not your task to solve it and if those tools frustrate (or annoy?) other people, than its their problem.
Second: thank you for the long and very interesting explanation that was very thoughtful of you.
Last but not least: now I have to say sorry! Sorryif you thought (or think) you make some random stranger uncomfortable just because of your glasses. Sorry if you felt attacked because of my shitty ocd (I am honest here and if its reads like that bo sarcasm, English is not my main language. I'm sorry, I don't actually know what you mean with this. The glasses are there cause of stroke-caused deficiencies with facial processing and memory.

Yup, still trying to figure out what the mog face is. I won't be able to understand the mog face when I see it though, hence the glasses. I literally can't work through faces without difficulty.

ummmm.... use a spoon to open pickle (and the like) jar lids by levering it under the lid, it's easier than brute force?
YES I ALWAYS DO THAT!
I also use the spoon for leverage to open tuna cans (because I have really short nails)
You can also open beer bottles with a spoon, a knife or a fork!

It's me, but only because I haven't gotten a new pair since I've transitioned (estrogen seemed to help my eyesight a bit, so I've only recently begun to need a new prescription)
I don't care if I'm a stereotype! I rock my pairs and I actually never thought that it was one.
It was an egg cracking change, and I asked advice from the optometrist and ended to choose by myself because none seemed good but these ones!
