A young woman once did comment positively on my scent while I was perspiring lightly, but I had showered previously, so that probably helped the most.

[–] CackNClap@infosec.pub 79 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Definitely a big difference between fresh sweat on a clean, healthy person and STANK!

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 22 points 3 weeks ago

I think I was healthy back then too

so how many men is "some men?" weasel words imply the actual reality is someone saw a statistically insignificant number of tweets and didn't want to say that because it weakens the point they already decided they want to make.

anyway my junk smells great after a shower, and i know people with sniff kinks, so... i guess that makes me more alpha than these losers.

Aye, this is the most non-story thing ever.

My wife has always told me that women really just want a guy who is nice to them and doesn't smell, and monosphere weirdos keep telling them to do the opposite.

If you show up to a cafe smelling like an anime convention or a TCG tournament then you have only yourself to blame when your date runs away gagging.

It's not that hard... shower 4-8 hours before the date, then don't do anything that makes you sweat significantly or become dirty. You'll still be clean, but won't have scrubbed away your natural smells and the like.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 23 points 3 weeks ago (7 children)

Is this just a feed back loop for incels? Woman rejects them at first date because they smell terribly and they have new "evidence" of all women hating them?

[–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 22 points 3 weeks ago

Yep. Just like all male influencer advice. It's a pit of despair you can only keep falling down so long as you keep taking their advice

Maybe something with this?

Regarding human attraction, evolutionary theory suggests that individuals may be subconsciously drawn to partners with dissimilar MHC genes. This preference is often mediated by body odor, as MHC genotypes influence the scent of sweat and other bodily fluids. Choosing a partner with different MHC alleles increases the likelihood that offspring will inherit a diverse set of immune genes, potentially enhancing their pathogen resistance and overall fitness.

First they embraced the debunked Alpha Wolf shit. Now they think humans still have pheromone receptors.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 16 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

The smell is literally bacteria shit.

Dead skin cells and oils consumed, shat out, and increasingly an odour issue the longer it piles up. There is no other contributors here. Body odour is bacteria poop and they're not flushing.

[–] whyderrito@lemmy.dbzer0.com 28 points 3 weeks ago

Brev, humans are bacterial colonies with an ego.

I’m not up on whatever trend but it may work in some cases provided they’re not just marinating in filth (there’s definitely a difference).

I got psy-op’d by society into being very anxious about possibly smelling around a date since I sweat easily so I ensured absolutely every time before one was a VERY thorough shower and scrub til’ I was practically raw, generous application of deoderant, etc. and applied a light bit of tea tree oil before I went on a date.

On one of the early dates with my now-wife while we were watching a movie, she finally turned to me and said that there was some sort of smell to me that was giving her a headache for the past few dates and asked if I could just not use that moving forward.

It turned out that she actually hated the deoderant and tea tree and so on and actually some sort of wire is crossed in her head such that my natural body scent smells like passionfruit to her (she very positively rates passionfruit). So my early efforts to come off as if I have never had the concept of sweat in my life were directly sabotaging my attempt to appeal to her nose, in addition to making me feel insecure about it when there was really no need.

This seems like a self-solving problem

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

My first GF, many years ago. I was snuggling with her, and smelled her hair. I said it smelled nice, and she pulled back to tell me she hadn't washed it in three days. In the moment, because I was so young and inexperienced, I felt a little foolish.

It doesn't take long to realize it's okay to like what you like.

Stink-maxxing

[–] whyderrito@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 3 weeks ago (21 children)

There's plenty of people on this post acting like a stinky man is unfit.

Suffice to say this is false.

There are plenty of things to criticize in a man. Their stank is not one of the ones that matter to me.

What matters to me:

Are they a misogynist? Are they racist? Are they hateful? Are they classist? Are they kind? Are they empathic? Are they able to cook? Do they clean the dishes when they use them?

[–] heartSagan5@lemmy.zip 16 points 3 weeks ago (13 children)

But that stank is distracting from those higher values.

I'm guessing if they're getting their hygiene tips from the man-o-sphere about things like pheremones, etc.... they're likely also going to be all of the above (except the last one).

If they can't even wash their own ass they're definitely not empathetic or washing dishes.

Is time flowing in reverse? I swear this was a thing ten years ago.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 15 points 3 weeks ago (16 children)

It's the same Naturalist fallacy that health-and-wellness hucksters love to pitch to people. Another one I loved was "don't wash your hair, that causes baldness", leading to an entire graduating class of college kids going around with bedhead for a year or three.

There's a grain of truth in this. Sweat can smell good IF YOU'RE CLEAN. If it's sweat that's been on you for 24 hours and starts fermenting on you it's going to stink. But the sweat you make in the first hours after you've bathed? That's nice.

So take a shower right before your date. And then be slightly nervous.
