I'll pile on. They threw their weight in and fought back against the tariffs also: https://www.npr.org/2025/12/03/nx-s1-5628405/costco-sues-the-trump-administration-over-tariffs
I feel slightly out of touch here, what's up with this Trump Mystery Meat?
Also, they've been rounding up wild horses too so we've got that possibility as well as the Argentina tainted beef.
Why would bother with possibly tainted beef if you have horses?
the big orange man wants americans to have government subsidized hamburgers so people think that food costs arent as insane as they are, but he refuses to say where he's getting it from. the general consensus seems to be that he's allowing the import of a bunch of meat that was rejected by other countries for failing to meet quality standards. because that's how you help struggling cattle ranchers, after all.
"We have Russian Mobniks cube at home,"
-said the Americans.
Word is the mystery meat is all that Argentine beef that was recalled recently.
The meat was rejected by China due to the high amount of neurotoxic antibiotics they detected in it.
WDYM "that was recalled recently"? How would that work?
Isn't this meat going to be available long term?
I had thought they didn't disclose the origin simply because their abatoirs are not compliant with US standards.
Doesn't need to be available long term, the freedom gas didn't stay cheap either. Just gotta get it into the news cycle for a bit.
Yeah and turns out everyone involved in that operation is kind of a piece of shit, and the fuel was stolen
I might have to go vegetarian if this is the future of meat thanks to Trump.
Come, join us, as we feast on seitan.
Hail Seitan!
If you can afford to gamble $25 on the advice of an Internet stranger, do this:
-
Buy a 4lb bag of Vital Wheat gluten. (Can be aquired on Anthony's Goods website.)
-
Mix it about 50-50 with water, and just... do stuff with it.
-
Example1: Mix 350 grams of gluten powder with 450 grams of water (Optional 5 grams of MSG) and stir it together until it's a big blob. Pick it up and stretch it in every possible direction and knead the absolute shit out of it. Divide into 7 portions, and place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 250°F/120°C for about 2 hours. You now have a 50 grams of protein blob for each day of the week, to be sliced and dovided however you wish throughout the day.
-
Example2: Get a ripping hot skillet and dump in Some™ gluten powder and Approximately® twice as much water and vigorously stir it with, like, a fork or something like that, and dump some cooking oil on it as an afterthought, and dump some spices in it and boil off all the water to make a fake Taco meat mix. If it sticks, take it off the heat and add a splash of water to unstick it, and it's okay to jave juicy taco seitan crumbles. You actually cannot fuck this up.
Enjoy.
The meat comes from Russia I'd wager . The CIA director travelled on the c17 Globemaster heavy lift aircraft to deliver Fort Knox as payment.
(I'm being conspiracy sarcastic btw)
As much as this is basically an ad, I agree.
Support businesses that don't take any shit because then you know they actually care about providing a service in addition to making money, as opposed to strictly the latter no holds barred.
Costco was very clear with the tariffs that they would eat the cost and just sue because they felt it was illegal. Low and behold, it was illegal, and they are getting a refund after not raising costs like everyone else. And their customers loved them for it.
This is actually their entire buisness model as well. They don't really make much money from their products. They make almost 100% profit from their memberships. If I remember right, over 2/3 of their total profit comes from membership revenue. So if they piss people off and make them cancel their membership, that would really fuck them over.
Costco is the Bernie Sanders of retail.
Notice that all the employees there smile and laugh as they work. It’s heartening.
Welcome to Costco. We love you.
Costco runs it's own rigorous food inspection program

trump always seems to send the dangerous stuff to racial minority areas beware if you eat beef in one of these areas.
I haven't had meat since I heard the laws were relaxed.
Haven't had a hard time at all. Beans, seitan, impossible meat. It's all delicious!
Never going back.
