remake Mass effect.

Keep the story, voice cast, everyting, except delete the ending bossfight of ME2 and some "you died, OH SHIT, we need to make a sequel!" stuff.

Game ends with a minute long fade to black when you land on earth at the end while you fight your way through the invasion. The END.

Streamlining planeary exploration, but keep the vehicle.

Fallout 5, please and thank you.

But, if it's my vision, with no compromise:

  • the map is the whole of the contiguous US, with parts of Canada and Mexico thrown in for good measure
  • there is a main campaign with a more coherent story than those we've seen so far, but it's almost irrelevant
  • given the vast scale of the map there are hundreds of huge, complex, side quests involving different regions each of which is as full and complete and compelling as the main campaign
  • the world is alive: it slowly changes even without your input if you've visited a place. Settlers slowly clean up rubbish, remove corpses, plant crops, rebuild walls and roofs, redecorate, begin trading, establishing lines of commerce and communication between settlements. You can speed the process up through your actions, but once you've visited a place, things will happen. The flip side is that sometimes bad things will happen: diseases that wipe out a village, fires, natural disasters, raiders, supermutants, whatever.
  • NPcs age, change, die, have offspring, move locations
  • over the course of many in-game years, you can actually make the world a better place, bring safety to the wastelands, wipe out nests of deathclaws, etc such that they don't respawn
  • reputation matters but travels organically, if you save a village (or commit brutal murder) your reputation changes but only at the pace of communication, if you go somewhere completely new, quickly enough, or far enough away, they won't have heard of you
  • NPCs will react to you appropriately, e.g. raiders with pool cues won't attack a PC wearing power armor and carrying a minigun, townsfolk will be wary of a stranger who's walked into town covered in blood
  • dialogues choices will be complex, meaningful, and consequential
  • game actions will also be meaningful, and consequential

I'm sure there's more but that's off the top of my head.

3D Dwarf Fortress. Basically if an open world TTRPG was a video game.

[–] domusaltera@piefed.social 3 points 1 hour ago

For me it would be a dungeon crawler in the style of Monomyth but with AAA graphics. Also, it would start with a massive intro sequence, like in Kingdom Come: Deliverance, when you've been playing for ages and then realise the game hasn't really even started yet. It would also have really emotionally engaging writing and cut scenes like in Eriksholm: The StolenDream.

The most important ingredient though, and I can't stress this enough, because so many games get this wrong in my opinion, is a world that doesn't appear to give a damn that I'm in it or need me to do anything. Monomyth nails this as does, I think, GTA5. Everyone's just living their lives and you are one tiny part of it, nothing more. I really hate games that feel like the Truman Show. I want to be able to hide in the world, to be unnoticed. Thief by Eidos gets this right too.

Also I want my dungeons to hint at light above through maybe cracks way up high in the rocks, like the caves and temples of Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Finally I want the player to be able to choose whatever play style they want, without shaming them for making it easy or glorifying them for making it as hard as possible. I don't like games that tell me how to have fun and if a player finds a completely unexpected way to achieve something good. No sudden patch to nerf it. Just leave it.

I've always wanted to play a game like "tropico" but instead of managing a parody of a banana republic, you have to manage the decline of a parody capitalist empire.

A realistic* Pirate open world by Rockstar. Basically the best of Black Flag and RDR2 in one package.

*in the sense how RDR2 is realistic and how we imagine pirate life was. Not too theme park-y like Pirates of the Caribean but also not hardcore grim and ugly.

[–] Frigidlollipop@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Honestly, another fantasy game with the gameplay of Red Dead 2 and the beauty of a world like Skyim with multi-player enabled. I live for the story, so Dragon Age 1 was my jam and BG3 is right now, but I always wish I could be playing with my partner everytime im in a game like that and it isnt allowed. I was pissed when the Tales games dropped multi-player functionality!

[–] FluminaInMaria@mander.xyz 4 points 3 hours ago

The timing of my suggestion sucks somewhat, but I've had this idea since playing RDR2 when it was still new: a trilogy of RDR2/GTA hybrid games based off the RDR2 map (potentially expanded into new areas in places).

First game set in late 1920s, streets have cars and horse and carts on them, all the fashion, music (jazz), radio shows, drugs, bootleggers, heavy/dangerous industry, advancements in shipping and flight; but modelled onto the exact RDR2 map including every building. Obviously some areas could be unrecognisable other than the road layout if the area had seen a lot of redevelopment since the turn of the century. The game would need to have GTA at it's core and make the 20's feel like the peak of modernity and wit, and not feel like a dingy pastiche of the era. It would need to have echoes of RDR2 through it given it's set not long after the RDR2 story finishes.

Next game set in the 1950s, same map/same ethos, but you take the 20's version of the map as the starting point so there's an evolution of the idea. You could even follow the main characters and businesses on from the 20's game. I think you'd need more map to play with for a 50's game as there are a lot of new industries to explore and find space to place on the map. With that being said, whatever space you think you would need for v2 or v3 of the trilogy, should be added to the 20's edition so you see the entire map expand through the three games rather than having new areas bolted on in later additions that don't have any history to them.

Last game set in mid/late 70's.

Arx Fatalis with the stealth and lighting of The Dark Mod, modern graphics fidelity with physics-based rendering, and the areas of the different races are believably expansive (so I can somewhat believe that they might actually work). I also want moar physics, crafting, and magic because these systems were genuinely great implementations rarely seen in other games.

Arx Fatalis is a great game. But a bigger team with a higher budget could just have made more game with a bigger world but the same content density. And it's an old game from before physics based rendering was common.

They did impressive detail work back then. Today, they wouldn't be limited by the hardware. If it's still an underground stack of colonies organized in layers like they did back then for performance reasons, there would basically be no performance constraints today. The loading screens between levels would be gone. I could actually take the stairs.

Project Vapour:

Physics/sim based, 1st person, Steampunk Mech Warrior type affair, set in a late 19th century alternate history Australia. Haven't nailed down how deep the multiplayer side should go.

The "MacGuffin" is a weird radioactive mineral that forms a crust on contact with some component of the atmosphere that contains all radiation but gets very hot in doing so. This mineral is only found in the centre of mainland Australia.

Getting there is difficult, building railways proves impossible, so steam powered walking machines ending up being the defacto method of transport over the terrain. Many nations and other groups want a piece of the action, much scope for shenanigans of all magnitudes, rewriting of global history, etc...

Maybe, one day.

Underwater openworld of a whole planet. With cities, factions, different ecosystems. Lore heavy, I am thinking a mixture of Sunless sea, Subnautica, barotrauma and rogue galaxy, but way above their scope.

[–] IzzyJ@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Open world rpg with a superhero theme. You can play a few variations of a hero or villain, different builds have different powers. You can romance various unsuper npcs, some depending on morality; with quests to rescue them. The city is an open world where tropy incidents like bank robbings, cars in trees, villain attacks, and romance kidnappings occur as repeatable quests alongside the campaign. The campaign itself is a branching quest line with multiple divergence points depending on player decisions, and how those and many side quests resolve actually alter the open world, and the way you complete them effecrs what quests you unlock. The skill tree branches just like the questlines, and the player hits a level cap far too soon to max out everything. Meaning you can go a generalist approach, but you'll be a jack of all trades sorta build. Or, you can focus on a few branches, say max out super speed, but the level cap means you'll have to sacrifice things like super strength to do it.

I call it, Superpower. Its a pun on the political term

[–] Varesti@lemmy.zip 5 points 5 hours ago

The rest of the Xenogears series/saga.

Xenogears was supposed to be episode 5 of a 6 part story and the other 'Xeno' games don't count because of legal BS.

[–] dangrousperson@feddit.org 2 points 4 hours ago

My ultimate wish:

I want a Star Wars RPG that is a mix of Kotor and Star Wars Jedi Survivor, with Ghost of Tsushima/Yotei combat (switch between the 7 light-saber forms) and Souls like elements. A morality/faction system that is a mix of infamous (dark/light side or a middle way have different unlocks and abilities) and Fallout New Vegas (you can join any faction, no matter who the good/bad guys are).

Streets of Rage style beat em up,but it's set in ancient Rome.

Guild wars 3 but following guild wars 1 combat system. They can add more animations and complex movement but skills, builds and gear need to be the power focus. It needs to be co op focused zones with outpost challenges.

[–] cinoreus@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

That reminds me, do we have fediverse alternative to that?

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 11 points 5 hours ago

Yes, but it's a single player game.

[–] someacnt_@lemmy.world 15 points 11 hours ago (5 children)

There's this thing floating in my mind for some time. A colony management game, where the colony is regressing instead of progressing.

You manage an isolated colony on a deserted planet slowly falling apart, desperately trying to mitigate the damage and survive the fall. You begin with automated system managing the colony, so that you won't get overwhelmed by all the systems. Then, systems begin to fail one-by-one, by external factors putting them in strain. Maybe the colony train network goes down first, then the communication network breaks down, leading to civil unrest. Next, heating fails, then environmental shielding, and oxygen goes out. You can utilize emergency systems and construct makeshift components, but it can only lessen the impact, not reverse the entire breakdown.

Maybe this is uncommon because sense of despair makes it unfun, but I would still find it interesting.

[–] solarvector@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 hours ago

Frostpunk is pretty similar. If the gameplay is slightly harder than you can keep up with its essentially exactly that scenario.

[–] Frigidlollipop@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

You should try playing Grimshire and report back on the experience!

[–] Varesti@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 hours ago

It's not your vision, exactly, but I think Project Zomboid handles this to a degree. You start out with the power/water on and none of the food spoiled yet. But as the game goes on, you need to rely more and more on things you've made yourself. Also, you're told from the very start that this is how you died.

[–] Omgpwnies@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago

One thing colony management games really don't handle is rot.. so your concept would be really good along with a progression system, so you start with a functioning but failing colony, and have to fix/rip out/rebuild/etc to keep it running, but doing any of that runs the risk of breaking something you might not have known about and so on..

Are you secretly a current US politician hoping someone smarter than you chimes in with a secret one-two punch to save the breakdown of your government?

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 7 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

mobile game like flappy bird.

instead of it being a bird, its a top-down view of a toilet and the player has to piss in the bowl.

levels get more difficult as you progress.

  • piss blasting poop off the bowl
  • pissing around the soaked lunker that will break open and end the game (it slowly follows your stream so there's no way of avoiding it)
  • avoiding dripping on your pants
  • piss out the fire
  • drawing in the snow
  • exotic places to piss; next to an electric fence, on a presidential face, in a bottle, down a tube, space station toilet, etc

there would be power ups/downs too;

  • piss blaster to increase pressure at a loss of volume
  • increase bladder size
  • gonorrhea/blood
  • acidic piss that eats through stuff
  • dick size increase/decrease
  • Parkinsons
  • drunkness
  • kidney stones

I would expect there to be around 32 levels, a compelling storyline with relatable characters, and a way to freepiss and piss with friends.

since it's a mobile game, hold the phone like a penis. tip it downward to piss faster/harder and swivel it to aim.

the name of the game would be called "Agents of P.I.S.S"

if successful, DLC will be published for Christmas called "Merry Pissmas" and will include voice acting by Patton Oswalt.

good luck whoever wants to take this game. I've been sitting on it for 20+ years.

make my golden dream come true!

Am i expected to get Parkinson's mid-stream?

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 2 points 50 minutes ago

gives you the shakes, makes it more difficult to aim.

[–] BitUnWise@programming.dev 4 points 11 hours ago
[–] Sarothazrom@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

I have dreamed of this exact scenario happening for a long time, I have a vision of a turn-based tactical cypherpubk RPG story-based journey inspired by a really old flash game called Spybot. I wrote it most of the story beats ages who and still constantly see images of what it wants to be, in my head.

[–] Smokeless7048@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago

A game similar to Oregon Trail, where you guide a dwarven trail across a post magical apocalypse to start a new dwarven outpost, gameplay would focus on hard calls, trading the future for the present.

[–] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

A single player MMO experience similar to Tera online's combat, Warcraft's story (not WoW), and Warframe's monetization, dev philosophy, and grind.

I dont think id ever leave my house after that, so maybe just "Spyro Year of the Dragon but with the same or better quality as Spyro Ripto's Rage"

[–] weew@lemmy.ca 5 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (1 children)

Basically Cyberpunk 2077 MMO, with more of everything. But also a good single player story.

i.e. more body types, more cyberware, more RPG options/builds. More missions, mission types which favor different builds (i.e. stealth vs head on assault vs speed vs hacking). More environments (including space) and other cities around the world, and the Net as well, with more to explore.

[–] baguettefish@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 3 hours ago

i would add onto this more open world activities

for example for GTA VI I've extracted from the recent gameplay preview these activities:

  • basketball
  • jetski
  • hovercraft / airboat
  • motorcycle races
  • car races
  • shooting gallery
  • robbing people, robbing every single store you can go into
  • parachuting
  • kayaking
  • working out to gain permanent stats
  • boxing / MMA
  • wrestling
  • underwater diving

really I actually want a functioning economy, complete with the possibility to work and scheme and murder your way up any company, own any real estate, operate any factory, etc. Even work as a janitor if you want to. i know that's really unrealistic, but a man can dream. (the closest to the economy simulation thing is the recently released PC game big ambitions, but it's just not the same. there's also shadows of doubt for a fully simulated single crime-ridden city, but again not the same.)
