I could say the same to the data centers. They got to lay off the water bro.
Dehydration has severe effects on your mental and physical health
Measuring liquid with mass units? Toddlerific
Why tho? 1kg=1l, 1g=1ml anyway, and I like to know how much something will weight in my backpack
That's only for pure H20 (distilled water). Most drinking water has low amounts of mineral salts and other stuff.
It seems to be an American thing. When I was in the US I was confused by all that drink cans are labeled in weight measurements rather than in liquid measurements. Although I guess it's the US so I should just be grateful that it wasn't been measured in fractions of a corgi or something.
8 fluid ounces is a cup, 4 cups is a quart, 4 quarts is a gallon. Most canned drinks are 12 fl. oz, or 3/4 of a pint.
8 ounces is half a pound.
It’s makes perfect sense!

A pint's a pound, not quite the world around, mostly just in the US, Liberia, and Myanmar, but also in several commonwealth countries and not to a precision level where local gravity applies
Does that not mean that you get different amounts of liquid for the same 12 fluid ounces, because a pint of water does not weigh the same as a pint of beer, which in turn does not weigh the same as a paint of Coke.
No. Fluid ounce is the volume. Most filling processes utilize the specific gravity of the solution and then fill by weight.
1 L of water is 1kg. Let's say you add 500 grams of sugar. Now the solution has a specific gravity of 1.5mg per ml. So a 500 mL fill (16.9 oz) is 750mg. This is really rudimentary but I hope it kind of explains how the process should go.
A fluid ounce is a unit of volume.
Over-hydrating doesn't help, but under-hydrating sure does.
If you're pee is light yellow ya doin' fine.
It has some grains of truth but it's mingled with too much personal opinion.
There are studies on how much water humans really need. If you want to calculate it the scientific way, you need to factor in at least lean muscle mass, total mass, surface area, ambient temperature and humidity, activity levels, and diet. There's no magic number of ounces that's correct for everyone.
Fortunately we've evolved a really awesome mechanism. When your body needs more water, you get thirsty.
So if you want to stay properly hydrated, drink whenever you feel even a little thirsty.

Yeaaahhh....About that...
ADHD can make you completely ignore that signal for way, way too long.
My body also misinterprets that signal as "hunger", and a craving for some wet food. Maybe like yogurt or a cup of pudding. You know something that just slides down easy. Yeah #thisiswhyimfat.
Yep...
Take my meds and of to the race on one cup of tea at the morning.
Sometimes I will remember the bottle of water on my table in front of my monitors at work. Sometimes.
Me too. Sometimes I feel like I must get thirsty in a reasonable way, but when I actually notice the sensation is another matter. At other times I'm incessantly thirsty.
After about 23C I swear a lot. I definitely need to replenish what I lose or I get drowsy
We can seperate regions easily enough and their peak humidity seasons. You just need to factor in sedentary, semi active, active and athletic lifestyles.
The spice must flow.
Has the author considered: construction workers
Three article boils down to the author being a whiny WSJ entitled asshole, which is what I expect from the WSJ.
Author, you don't need the 40 oz cup.
Quoted Expert, you need around 125 oz a day.
Author, but water is so boring and tasteless, I want sugar and you get a fraction of water from food right? I don't wanna drink water. Written Toddler Tantrum ensues
Author, so in conclusion you don't need that 40 oz water cup.
The rest of us, STFU you entitled twat.
Right wing newspapers love to do this shit where I live. We get into a crisis, people start skipping meals because they don't have money, and they will talk about the health benefits of dieting and fasting 🙄
The hot new diet trend, poverty.
Have you tried this new drug, Nofudatall? Take it in place of your normal three meals and watch the pounds of fat~and~ ~muscle~ boil away.
Poverty is surprisingly expensive, but you can get Nofudatall for free~with~ ~qualifying~ ~insurance~ ~plans~ !
Nofudatall already exists - it's called Ozempic
I did my injection yesterday 😀
Ghoulish
Must be soon
"Do not, my friends, become addicted to water. It will take hold of you, and you will resent its absence!"
Dang it, I've been working so hard to conquer my addiction to breathing, and now they want me to give up water too??
Looked at the article, and it starts off pretty stupid
While everyone else seems to be slugging H20 from 40-ounce Stanley tumblers, I have never understood the appeal of drinking plain, tasteless water all day.
Some people live in areas where the water tastes bad, but seeing the water as "boring" might mean that you're drinking too much of the other stuff (soft drinks, juice, sugary etc). It's not that those other things are not hydrating, but they're unhealthy for other reasons.
The question feels more pressing than ever given rising temperatures, heat waves
I refuse to normalize a world where people lack access to clean drinking water. 😠
The rest of the article is pretty standard advice. There's no set amount of water that everyone needs to drink, and your diet/lifestyle/body composition/the weather will all play a role. Going based on thirst is a good indicator, but make sure you actually drink water when you're thirsty. !hydrohomies@lemmy.ml
But using that to justify unequal access to clean drinking water is a big no.
2027: “Do you really need three meals a day?”
Begun, the water wars have.
Do I need to feel bad about wanting to get an RO system yet?
Like on the one hand, I don't really want to keep drinking teflon and microplastics. But on the other hand, there's a lot of waste from RO systems...but on the other hand, residential water waste is peanuts as far as conservation goes. Also I blame the teflon for having too many hands.
And yet we let evil prevail. Humanity is pathetic.
