MODERATORS
If a policeman ever tells you to get out of your car during a traffic stop, you have to comply based on a ruling from Pennsylvania vs Mimms that they can remove you from your car if they have reason to believe you're dangerous and want to be able to see you at all times for officer safety.
So whenever you get asked to step out of the car, make sure you say, "I know you're scared." They love that!.

I've had at least three jobs that are always listed as more dangerous than a cop, but I've never gone around demanding respect because "I risk my life with every shift."
How risky is a cop's job, really? They have the full force of the entire government on their side, and an arsenal on their waist, and an even bigger arsenal in their vehicle. With a quick click on the radio, and they have a nearly unlimited army who will come to their aid, all armed to the teeth as well, and willing to back any cockamamie story he tells.

IIRC, automobile accidents are the number one cause of death for on duty police deaths. Oftentimes their own fault not following policy during pursuits.
‘Not following policy’ means they don’t wear their seatbelts. Cops are so fucking stupid.
Yeah safety last, no PPE for me toxic masculinity.
I remember huge pushback from officers when ballistic vests were first introduced. I was in a police science class and instructors had so many reasons; too hot, too heavy so can't chase down perps, will impede quickly exiting vehicle (same with seat belts), will give officers false sense of security and are more dangerous. Saw the same in media countrywide.
Or doing the pursuits at all, for that matter.
In a society where the government is surveiling every other person and have cameras everywhere, the old "if we don't get our perp now he's gone forever" trope is bullshit.
As much as they make for entertaining TV and make cops feel all macho and accomplished, car chases are COMPLETELY unnecessary reckless endangerment in almost all cases.
From what I understand most police agencies have a no-pursuit policy. It's generally more hazardous to chase the person than it is to just phone ahead in the direction that the person's driving and have a blockade setup or just show up at their house

You'd think it's from dangerous assignment-based activities but it's not. It's from doing stupid shit in traffic stops and getting hit by innocent drivers. It's what happens when superficial authority meets 3 tons of metal at a mile a minute.
They initiate traffic stops based on infractions that had no impact on safety at all, like rolling through a stop sign at an intersection with no other cars, and cause a far more dangerous situation with a roadside stop.

Imagine if other professions were allowed to use the logic police can in court.
"Your honor, I acknowledge that I did run over that entire kindergarten class with my big rig, but if I had swerved there would have been a slightly elevated risk of me rolling over and crashing, so I had to. Truck driver safety has to come first, after all."
