Hello everyone!

So I've GM'd a few of my first games where the setting is in Cyberpunk 2077 and I created a google doc for my players where I copy/pasted all of the relevant rules that I intend to use for this campaign. However, I'm getting the strong feeling that a couple of my players are still VERY overwhelmed by the GURPS system as a whole, and I think that might be my fault. Nobody in the group has used GURPS before, and I'm the only one who has read the books, so when we did character creation, I had each player tell me what they wanted their character to feel like, and then I did the cherry-picking in GCS to assemble their sheets. 2 of the characters ended up having just a giant wall of text to cover what their abilities are. To me, reading each one individually sounds very clear, but to the players, I think it was too overloading and they got checked-out. At the start of playing, I did tell my players that since we're all new to the system, we can do a free character reset after a few games like what happens when you leave the tutorial of a Bethesda game, since maybe some advantages they picked aren't exactly what they wanted after all.

This brings me to the main point of my post; are there any good resources out there for character lenses, archetypes, and/or templates (which I'll just collectively refer to as "lenses") that can break down the character creation process for new players into a clear, step-by-step process? I know that the Dungeon Fantasy series has lenses for fantasy classes and heritages, but are there resources that have lenses for settings outside of medieval D&D-style campaigns? Possibly a website or forum where people can submit their own lenses.

Alternatively for the veteran GURPS GMs out there, do you have any advice for people who want to design their own lenses? Like common pitfalls to avoid, or how to appropriately segment how many points should go into different categories of upgrades.

Thanks again for everyone's feedback!

I often use wikidot (http://gurpswiki.wikidot.com/) for its index of official resources, which includes templates of various kinds. You might care for GURPS Cyberpunk from 3e alongside 3/4e's Transhuman Space. You might also have luck adapting similar enough templates, like those found in GURPS Action, Space, Tactical Shooting, Martial Arts, and Navy Seal in Vientam. The similarities can be pretty high all things considered.

I'm not aware of any existing collation of fan resources beyond the Steve Jackson forums though. There's plenty of tiny islands where people have posted their work on various settings or genres though, you just have to be specific in your search mostly.

As far as designing them.. it's rough. The only constant pitfall I've ever felt is trying to make things match between templates points wise. It takes a lot of effort to get complex templates to match without feeling arbitrary in their design.
