It's kind of wild how wholesome many 2000 comedies were deep down. But the world changed and a lot of them were re evaluated a in the 2010s as being awful and terrible because they were given surface level analysis and turned into rage-bait for the 'love to be offended' crowd who often can't see beyond the surface of things.

yeah I've heard this. Makes sense. I was a big buyer of DVDs myself back in the 2000s, but once streaming came along it was over.
I still have a couple dozen movies on blu ray and such, and people are total assholes about it asking me why I am so 'weird' owning physical media. Movie collecting doesn't get the cultural 'cool' of say, owning records on vinyl, and btw often the people who own vinyl are the same ones who give me shit about having physical media.... sigh
everything is streaming rights sales now, and you can't command a high price for it on a low budget movie, hence why most streaming services are full of cheap schlock and the high priced premium content moves from service to service ever other month.
As for reasons DVDs are so cool. LGR made this pretty rad video about all the cool things one might get for putting a DVD into a PC's DVD-ROM drive. :D

It's bizarre how much derision you get for collecting physical movies you care about though. I always simply respond with "Have you ever really wanted to watch a favorite movie and found it got dropped from streaming services you do have, and worse, it's nowhere to be found at all?"
Not to mention how streaming operations can simply cut, censor, or edit anything they like depending on various cultural factors at play.

The biggest scam is "buying" movies on platforms like Amazon. Although, kinda hypocritical of me, if you've seen my Steam library! π
No, it's because where I live owning things is considered bad and weird. You are supposed have a minimalist lifestyle and spend all your money traveling and going to restaurants, and what you do own has to be very expensive and exclusive. DVDs are cheap and gross.
It's not just the dvds, people think I'm weird for having pets, furniture, and other physical objects. There is a weird fetishization here for who like refuse to own anything that doesn't fit in a few suitcases. Probably because they constantly move. Like almost none of my nieghbors are the same, people live here for like 2-3 years and move mostly. So someone who has lived in the same place for 5+ years and is invested in the community and in their home, freaks them out.

I feel that Its better when you focus on things that you know that you have a close to 100% chance of achieving. Like doing a muscle up is a hard and fun skill to learn but obviously most people cant do it despite how fun it must be to do. But also it is definitely or close to 100% possible EVENTUALLY with years of consistent practice, right? Right.
Losing your v-card? Getting into a relationship? Pft. You can try to do both of these things for your entire life and still fail even if you do everything right and are a kind person. Some of the worst humans in history like mobutu, leopold III, karl malone , suharto, pol pot , and adolph shitler ALL had wives And this is despite their wives and most othe rpeople on the planet knowing how selfish and deranged they were soooo....

Its up to them.Its never a completely good idea or a bad idea to give up on something like dating cause it depends on cntext and who you are in life, where you are in life, what you want in life, and who else is in your life and wants to potentially see you as a partner . If you want to give ? You should give up cause YOU want to give up. You shouldnt continue to seek a partner cause of your parents' or your community expectatoons of you or cause some sort of peer pressure. Do it for you. But giving up on things that simply require consistent long term effort that you will probably be able to do with a long enough consistent effort is just a bad idea most of the times IMO.

I'm pretty sure I existed. I was bitter, angry at women while at the same time longing for their attention. I was jealous of other men and had the impression that was the only nice and worthy man and women where stupid to chose other men. I think that's pretty much the same mindset as "the modern version". Also the book "The Game" by Neil Strauss, about pickup artists was released around the same time.

so much of what is fucked up about online culture is people hyperbolic their totally ordinary experiences into an 'identity' and them form a support ground around it where they turn it into a pathology about how the world is oppressing them because of 'who they are' when 'who they are' is just some stupid arbitrary bullshit they made up.
literally every dude and every woman has struggled in romantic relationships. nobody is unique in that. when I was in high school before internet shit widespread, everyone whined to each other in person about they couldn't get girls/boys they wanted an nobody liked them and kept trying to 'figure out' how to get to bang the people we wanted to bang. we just didn't do it online or think it made us special or different.
incel became part of the modern popular discourse in 2014 when Elliot Roger mass shooting and self identified as an incel. the concept has only been around a decade, though apparently self-identified incels started using online forums in 2004 or so.
incels have always existed, we just used different terms for them until they outright stole and corrupted the name of an extremely normal support group for people with social anxiety.

I feel this. Getting there myself. Part of the problem is that I can't experience sexual pleasure and I have a hard time experiencing sexual attraction. But I really wish I could experience what those endorphins feel like even once! But even doing it myself, it doesn't work that way.
To my knowledge, I don't seem to have any physical abnormalities. I've been to the doc for a checkup before there. Nerves just must not be hooked up right or something.

If someone is happily asexual, then I guess it's not a problem. Some people might feel no desire and carry on with life not feeling like they miss anything because "there's nothing to miss". But suffering with it or feeling deprived sucks.
Yeah it's mostly fine for the most part. Just occasionally it gets to me. People describe it as such an immense pleasure that I wish I could experience something like that at least once in my life. Oh well.

Desire? I would say not really. Very occasionally yes and fleeting.
But more it's like missing a sense. Image all of your friends and family talk about how amazing chocolate tastes. But you were born without a sense of taste. Because people talking about the taste of chocolate are everywhere around you and you'll never get to know what it tastes like, it bothers you on occasion. You never crave chocolate because you can't taste anyway, but you'd just like to know what everyone tastes sometimes.
Except replace chocolate with sex/relationships. It's a bit more significant than chocolate because essentially all forms of media prominently feature sex/relationship. It's ubiquitous. And many people's sense of life purpose comes from the outcome of that (children). And man the way people describe what an orgasm is like, it sounds like freaking heroin or something. I'd like to just once be able to experience something that powerful and pleasurable. Most of the time I live with it and am unbothered, but occasionally it leaves me feeling really left out and at some times not even the same species.
Oh that's easy dude. Everyone my entire life has told me lobster is amazing. I litereally had it last night again, but it tastes like nothing to me. It's just kinda rubbery and unpleasant, even soaked in butter. Still I never think about lobster or desire it or wonder about it. I just don't care. Other people are obsessed with it, and when we go otu to eat, I just order the fish, since I really like fish. Okay. I talk to whoever I want like this at work without issue. I'm happily in a relationship, but I treat everyone I talk to like thisβwith respect. Ask questions and show you're interested in what people say. It's just friendly as well. Maybe in America this is an issue in the workplace?
But if you genuinely feel interest for someone at work, show them outside of work. Ask them out to somewhere where you can talk. If they say yes and agree to it, surely they shouldn't report you for harassment. But there's no harm in talking to a colleague at work, surely. Otherwise what the fuck kind of bullshit workplace are you at?
After all, most people in relationships are also good friends within that relationship... So speaking in a friendly way should never be an issue.
In America we watch HR videos that basically say 'you can tell sally she has a nice skirt on today, but if you comment on her hair or tell her she is pretty you are sexually harassing her'
I did my HR re-training a few months ago. This is what it said. They have these strict guidelines on what speech is permissible between co-workers.
Because the companies don't want to be sued for sexual harassment. Which is precisely what Sally could do, if I told her she was pretty and HR didn't fire me. She could sue my company for a nice six figure settlement for creating a hostile work environment by allowing me to comment on her physical attractiveness.
There are also strict rules about what topics are appropriate for discussion.
This is how every USA workplace is. These rules also apply outside of work hours. If I go out with Sally after work, she also an sue the company if I make a pass at her at a bar.
